Farewell, Taipei

September 8, 2013

In the previous posts you hopefully got a pretty good idea of Taipei and the area around Taipei. With this summary of my personal highlights, I conclude my Taipei series. The W Taipei hotel definitely was a highlight for me. Very cool hotel. As was our Fabulous Suite with a View….on the Taipei 101! And […]

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

September 6, 2013

There were several traditional, historical and classical sites in Taipei that we could have visited. Musea famous for their chinese art and pottery, presidential buildings, Sun Yat Sen’s Memorial Hall and so on. But we did not feel for that, so we chose just one to pay a visit: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The premises […]

Huashan 1914, Creative Park

September 5, 2013

In 1997 some artists accidentally ‘discovered’ a long time abandoned wine factory, built in 1914. Artists were drawn to the place because of it’s high ceilings and natural light flooding in. Over time it became the official artistic hub that it is today, named Huashan 1914. It does indeed look cool and creative. There is […]

Red House, Taipei

September 3, 2013

After having seen quite some Taipei temples, let’s have a look now at some spots that are considered creative and or cool. To begin with: the Red House. The Red House is one of Taipei’s landmarks. A western-style red brick octagonal building in Taipei’s Ximen neighborhood. Once built as Taipei’s first public market (1908), nowadays […]

Baoan Temple’s Garden, Taipei

September 2, 2013

Across from Baoan Temple there is a nice little park, belonging to the temple. It has statues, a pond, a mosaic mural, a square for events and a giant oven for burning paper objects. Some men were preparing to set up a giant ‘party’-tent for the upcoming event. Can anyone read the banners and tell […]

Baoan Temple, Taipei

September 1, 2013

Diagonally across the street from the Confucius Temple, you find the Baoan Temple plus it’s garden and event area. There was an upcoming event. I don’t know which one. Can anyone read the signs and tell me what it was about? The Baoan Temple dates from 1804 and is focussed on folk religion. I love […]

The Confucius Temple, Taipei

August 31, 2013

I know, I already portrayed several temples from Taipei. The Confucius Temple and the Baoan Temple are the last two, promise!;-) The two temples are next to each other and have a totally different look and feel about them. The Confucius Temple is very quiet, peaceful and clean. It originates from 1879, but has been rebuilt […]

August 30, 2013

OK, now for something different, after my posts about the Long Shan temple and about the Qing Shan Temple. Let’s get cultural and look at some contemporary art. We visited an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Taipei. It is a huge exhibition with work from the artist Xiang Jing, a sculptress […]

Qing Shan Temple, Taipei

August 29, 2013

Not far from Long Shan Temple is the much smaller, quieter and less known Qing Shan Temple. It took a bit of time and effort to find this temple, mainly because of the language barrier, but we succeeded. This temple is well worth the search and visit, because it is very special and beautiful. The temple […]
