Street Art

I love art.

Taste in art is personal

Having said that, there is a lot of art out there that does not mean a lot to me. Logical, since there is so much art and since being touched by it or not is personal.

I’m talking about art that I find rather elitist and distant. Or art that is too rational, abstract and constructed for my taste. Or would-be art. Wanna-be art. Bla bla art. Hot air. Or art that is fine, but just not my taste.

I love street art

One type of art that I really, really like is street art. In my book that includes: murals, graffiti, urban knitting, sculptures outside /on the streets, and more.

kissing sculpture

I came across this kissing sculpture on the street in Prague, many years ago.

What appeals to me is that it is informal, accessible for everybody and it does not take itself too seriously. I love that it brightens the cityscape. That it breaks the everyday scenery…. It often has a young vibe, it’s colorful and it can make a stroll to the supermarket a fun activity.

Sculpture of mother and child

When I visited Dusseldorf, Germany, about 6 years ago, there were very realistic-looking human figurines placed on meters-high poles.

Type in ‘street art’ in the search box in the right sidebar on this blog and all relevant posts will pop up.

mural in Los Angeles

During a roundtrip on the westcoast of America we saw a lot of street art. Like this mural in Los Angeles.
