Gong Xi Fa Cai - Happy Chinese New Year 2016

February 9, 2016

Gong Xi Fa Cai everbody!

Chinese New Year 2016 has arrived and it’s the Year of the Monkey. Which -so it happens- is my sign. Yes, I’m a Monkey; this is MY year, folks!

Monkey decorations in Singapore

The city is filled with monkeys.

Plush toys, monkey balloons, chinese lanterns, immensely large Monkey lanterns. Along Orchard Road, in Chinatown and along Marina Bay, to name some of the places.

Frits and I love exploring the Chinese New Year decorations all over Singapore, year after year.

There are monkey decorations in shopping malls and in shop windows.

The biggest selection of monkeys and the hugest monkey lantern are to be found at River Hongbao on the Float at Marina Bay.

Lots of small monkeys at River Hongbao.

This display is enormous and the Monkey King is gigantic (look at the people in the front/below on the picture for an idea of the size!) and really beautiful!

This lantern mural is huge! Again: look at the people in front of it for an idea of the size.

I love River Hongbao. You can find lots of pictures from other years here (2010 - year of the tiger), here (2011), here (2013), here (2014 - part 1), and here (2014 - part 2).

You can visit River Hongbao untill february 14th, daily, from 2 pm till 11 pm. (My recommendation: go after dark.)

Find all info here. Be sure not to miss the daily fireworks at 9 pm!

A whole different monkey-story was running into Moo Moo and Nal Nal. The Monkey King costume of one of the two doggies was sublime!

Compare the costume of the doggie on the left with this lantern of the Monkey King; see the resemblance?

Monkey King

I met the man, with his two doggies and his bike, several times before. The doggies are in different costumes every time. You can see my pictures here. They even have their own Facebook Page.

(I know, dressed up animals…isn’t it sad? How do these doggies feel about it? Truth be told, I do not know. I think they like the attention; I HOPE they do.)

Well, that’s enough monkey-business for the day;-). Have a great Year of the monkey!

Again, the display, the festivities…. they are so grand in Singapore. Really going overboard. Beautiful. This travelling back and forth may have its downsides, but it certainly has it ups too.
Oh and by the way… my details are remembered by your site. Also on my phone. YAY!!! Pass it on to Suzanne please haha.

Wow! I wonder what they do with all those decorations after the celebrations and year is over?

I think those dogs might like the extra attention. Like you, I hope so.

How did you change your blog so it remembers Greetje?

    bisous

I think they toss them or give them to certain companies or persons that might want them.

Does my blog now remember you as well, after commenting? I hope so. If so, that proves that my solution works and then I will share it with you. It’s something ‘my tech-guy’ did for me.
