Selfie Sunday #1 - Haw Par Villa Singapore

August 17, 2014

Selfie Sunday is a new serie on the blog. Not perse every sunday, and not perse a ‘real’ selfie (taken by myself). Weird definition of series and selfies you have, Curly! Yeah, I know;-). Let’s just say that you will find a picture of me here regularly on sundays. A picture with a story.

Today we take of with Selfie Sunday #1:

So what’s the story behind this picture?

Let me first introduce the characters in this little story.

When we arrived in Singapore, I explored online the tango scene in Singapore, as I do everywhere I go. I found a FaceBook group and on that list was a name that sounded Dutch. That made me curious, so I sent this person a message, asking: “Are you by any chance Dutch? Do you live in Singapore? And do you dance tango?” The answers I got back from Sylvia, as was her name, were : “Yes, yes, not any more.” To make a long story short, we met for coffee and are friends ever since. How cool is that?

While exploring pictures on Flickr, I stumbled upon the pictures of a German woman, named Sabine. She lives in Singapore and is a fantastic photographer. We got in contact via Flickr, met for a coffee and we are friends since then as well. Don’t you just love how online connections can turn into IRL (In Real Life) friendships?!

At a certain point Sylvia started the successful fashion blog 40plusstyle. She regularly does fashion shoots for that, usually #OOTD (Outfit of the Day) shoots . Sabine is always looking for photo opportunities and cool backdrops. And I love photography, my friends and Haw Par Villa.

(In case you are interested: I wrote about Haw Par Villa here (1), here (2), and here (3).)

So one day we went to that wonderful, weird sculpture garden, armed with cameras, clothes and props. We dressed each other up, threw ideas at each other about poses and good spots and had a lot of fun.

This picture is taken by Sylvia. I am wearing my own purple dress, a red vest from her and her red hat. The earrings and ring are my own, so are my light-blue nails;-). The purple veiled cloth was brought by Sabine.

Aren’t the crazy fake green/turquoise ‘rocks’ the perfect backdrop?

Our Fashion Shoot at Haw Par Villa resulted in many cool shots by and from all three of us.

So far for Selfie Sunday today, peeps. Have a great day!

I think you look smashing! And the colour combination is soooo my living room. You can wear a hat very well (I envy you terribly for that.)

      Thanks, Greetje.

You can wear hats very well too. Your only problem is that it ruins your hair, which makes you reluctant to place them far enough over your head. My hair gets less ruined, so I don’t have that problem. I have another problem though. I often wear my hair up. In those cases hats don’t fit anymore or stand to high up on my head.

This is such a bold wonderful colour combo for you. Also hats are great on you. You need to add this to Judith’s next hat attack.

I think it is brilliant how you met these two ladies. As one ages I find it is harder to find people to connect with or become friends with. You have a talent for making it look easy.

Thanks, Suzanne. Yes, I seem to have a hat head;-). Will think of Judith’s hat attack in the future.

Friendships are one of the best and most solid aspects of my life and they mean the world to me!

You look fantastic in this outfit, Anya. I love these colours together, the jewellery (I missed your giveaway post but you make AWESOME pieces! and congrats on your posts!) and the weird alien rocks are the coolest backdrop. This is a good idea, to have a selfie Sunday. You have met such wonderful people just by reaching out.

Brings back good memories. This was a great day. We should go back soon some time.
By the way why don’t you make it easy for us? “(If you don’t know Haw Par Villa, type it in in the Search Bar on the right side of the blog and my relevant posts will pop up.)” Internal linking to your own pages is so important! Not only to get us to that page and let us explore your sit longer, but also for SEO!
