Ms. Macquaries Point is a green area between Woolloomooloo and the Botanical Gardens, at the Sydney Harbour.
You can make a nice walk in the area, right along the waterfront.
You come across the wharf where Russell Crow lives, past a public pool and through lots of green.
The trail is popular amongst runners and walkers. You will come across dozens of walkers and runners.
The main landmark along the path is Ms. Macquarie’s Chair, a sandstone rock, carved out in the shape of a bench. This was done by convicts in 1810 for Governor Macquarie’s wife Elizabeth.
Supposedly she liked to sit there and watch ships passing by and enjoy the panoramic views. I can understand why, because I experienced moments of total harmony and happiness while walking there. It is soooo beautiful over there!
Near the end of the walk, the views over the Harbour, the Sydney Bridge and the Opera House are magnificent.
At the end you can opt to continue your walk through the Botanic Garden, like I did. I love Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden!
Just before I entered the Garden, I stumbled upon the location where -at that time- Aida was gonna be performed in the open air. How cool!
At the end of your stroll you will arrive back at Circular Quay.
From there you can opt for several additional activities. E.g.:
- you could visit the Opera House
- take a ferry
- or you could check out the MCA
- or dive into Sydney’s history at The Rocks
- and you can walk up George Street and go shopping, e.g. at the beautiful Queen Victoria Building
The good part is that all activities in this post are free! Except the shopping, of course ;-).

How wonderful it would be to live in a place called Woolloomooloo! Gorgeousness as far as the eye can see, including Russel Crowe. Yes, where does one get convicts to carve out stone benches these days? How times have changed. Aidi is not aging very well… Not enough sun block maybe. Great post.
