Selfie Sunday #6 - Hello Halloween!

October 19, 2014

Halloween 2014 is coming up!

Are you excited? I am!

I just love dressing up and seeing others in crazy outfits and Halloween is a great occasion for that. So I say: “Hello Halloween!”

Halloween costume

This picture was taken a few years ago in Singapore, during the one and only time that I celebrated Halloween. Back home, in the Netherlands, Halloween is not really ‘a thing’. Too bad, since I love every opportunity to dress up and wear wigs and all;-).

That year I went for a Blue Angel look.

Here’s what I wore:

  • blue dress
  • electric blue wig
  • cute little blue fascinator hat with feathers
  • huge blue lashes. Man, my eyes got so very tired of wearing those!
  • white wings
  • burgundy red glasses without glass;-)
  • turquoise stockings. Hot! in Singapore’s weather.
  • plateau sandals in jeans fabric
  • and some body- and face-paint.

I don’t know yet what I will be doing this year. Time to go to some costume shops next week; woohoo!

In my next post I will address the following topics:

  • where to shop for (or rent) Halloween costumes in Singapore
  • which costumes are trending this year
  • where to celebrate Halloween 2014 in Singapore
  • how to have extra fun with your pictures, like I had with the one above

How about you? Are you saying “Hello Halloween” as well? Or are you more the “Goodbye Halloween and never come back” type? Do you like dressing up and costumes? What was the best costume you ever wore? Do you decorate your house? Or do Trick or Treat?

Let me know, I would love to hear from you!

I love Halloween. It is the one day of the year that we can dress as our alter egos or anything we like for that matter. Unfortunately Robert doesn’t share the same amount of enthusiasm as I do. We did dress up a couple of years ago… like this…http://bisous.typepad.com/bisous/2012/10/happy-halloween.html Funny right? We picked up the costumes when we were in New Orleans.

I won a prize for best costume when I was in junior high. I went as an accident victim with a full leg cast, busted open head and looked quite like one of the zombies from Walking Dead. I did a brilliant job on the makeup and really did look like I’d been in an accident. The down side of course was that no one would dance with me. LOL

You look like a wild fairy in your get-up.

    bisous

I loved both your outfits and it was funny how NOT-matching they were; LOL. Like the ones from me and Frits a couple of years ago. You will see his in my next post. This year I suggested to go more coordinated;-).

Wow, that costume from you in High School sounds so advanced and elaborate! No wonder you won a prize! Any pictures from that? No one would dance with you, hahaha!!!

Hello Blue Angel Anja you look spectacular in your costume!
This year I will be an electric music witch in black and white wig, bejeweled wing glasses black cowboy hat and the rest is secret but it’s all black, white and sparkles… it’s a fun costume.. he he he!
It looks like you have some very special Halloweens in Singapore, I trust you are getting dressed up again this year too! Have a fabulous Halloween, I will be spending mine in the hospital so we are celebrating on Wednesday 29 instead of Friday 31.
Anja I want to thank you for the wonderful snail mail postcards and pictures from your friends hands I wish I was so talented. Please tell her that her pictures are stunning and say thank you for letting you send me some! 🙂
If you find strange symbols in the middle of a word it is because my keyboard is French and I keep thinking I have a standard Qwerty keyboard.
Have a Batty Halloween Bash, I borrowed that from somewhere but I hope you have a perfect one.
    Thank you again 🙂

      Hi Karen,

Glad you received and liked the snail mail. To which pictures are you referring? They were not by myself? (So long ago, that I do not recall exactly what I sent you;-))

Hope you will send me some pics of your costume after your Halloween festivities, and I hope the hospital ‘visit’ will not be too bad. Personally I really, really hate staying in hospital beds. Even if I would not be sick. Wishing you well, Karen!

        Hello, Anja,
The pictures I was talking about are the drawings of animals that your friend in the Netherlands drew.. there was a stag, badger, fox, barn owl etcetera. They were really well executed , is she by any chance an artist.. if not she should be one!! 🙂

If I find someone with a camera I will send you a picture of my Halloween costume.. hopefully time will not run out on me, because I have to be at the hospital for 6p.m. it does not leave me with much time to celebrate. I will do my best to get you some photographs but do not think badly of me if I cannot!
No, I do not like hospital beds either although the last one I was in had an air mattress that changed shape as you moved to prevent any sores from occurring I spent over a year in that bed! Hopefully this visit will not be that long.. it is only supposed to be a week to ten days..
I hope that you and yours are all well!
I saw a picture of you on Sylvia’s blog 40+ Style
Have a great day, wishing you well,
        Karen

          Hi Karen,

I did not want to put pressure on you, regarding a pic of your costume. Don’t worry about it!

A year in the hospital! OMG, that sounds terrible! And now 7-10 days? Sounds more than long enough to me too. I wish you so much strength and a speedy recovery, Karen!

Yes, I was on Sylvia’s blog a few times lately. She’s one of my BFF’s here in Singapore.

Ah, I see what you are talking about. No, these drawings were not done by someone I know. I purchased them. But the postcard with the donkey drawing was done by an artist friend of mine in the netherlands, if I sent you that one as well…

            Hi, Anja,

There is no problem with the Halloween picture if someone has a camera not have one a but most people do not bring one and I do not have one at the moment. You never know, keep fingers crossed and you just never know! 🙂

Thank you for the good wishes about the hospital stay!
Yes I now see that you sent me the drawing of the donkey, I like it too!
Sylvia’s been in Singapore doing the Brit . Anyway she is having fun at the symposium or whatever you call it . I am glad that you have a BFF in Sylvia she is one cool lady.
Sun coming up now, breakfast time 6:30 a.m. here evening or night where you are, I think!
Have a really good day at whatever time it is.

Ah I love Halloween! This year I’m going to be in Oaxaca in Mexico for the Day of the Dead celebrations. So excited for all the dressing up and to know more about how the Mexicans celebrate this time. Bet they have a good time in Singapore?!

OMG, I am so jealous now!!! Celebrating the Day of the Dead in Mexico is SO on my bucketlist! I love all that comes with this event. The sugar skulls, the black and white face make-up, the costumes. And of course the day of the dead miniature retablos. I only have one that I brought home from Mexico. I regret very much not having bought more of them. They are super cool!

      Have fun!

No idea if the Mexicans in Singapore are doing anything and how many Mexicans actually are here. But now you mention it, I am going to check it out right away!

I remember those red glasses and the fun time we had, not to mention the fun time we had that was so crazy I lost my white curly wig. Time again to do that this year!
