Let’s pick up our canal tour where we ended in part 1.

The diversity in architecture along the canals is fun, as are all the different types of boats, ships and houseboats.

What? Black panthers in Amsterdam? Noooo, not really, but you can come across a sign like this when you pass by the Amsterdam Zoo Artis, like we did. Funny, right?!
As you can see, it is lovely to cruise through the canals of Amsterdam’s city centre, but there’s more to discover.

This ship is named the Amsterdam. It is a beautiful replica of a V.O.C. ship from the 18th century. It is docked in the IJ and it is a museum, so you can visit the ship. My blogging friend Greetje, one of the fabulous four, wrote a blogpost about it.

The Muziekgebouw aan t IJ is a music house where -amongst others- many tango salons have been held. I visited a couple of them; lovely spot to dance. A beautiful building and location.
You can leave the city centre and sail to the lake the IJ, behind Amsterdam’s Centraal Station Railway Station.
From there there are several directions and destinations to choose, e.g Amsterdam-Noord or IJburg.

Two eye-catching buildings next to one another. Left we see Eye, the Film Institute of Amsterdam. On the right we see the former Shell tower, now named Overhoeks Tower. Not finished ad reopened yet, but with lots of cool slogans all around.
Amsterdam-Noord is developing in a hip and happening hub more and more, while IJburg has an interesting concept and architecture.
We ended our boat tour with a dinner at Pont 13. This restaurant is located on a converted boat. A unique location with good food and drinks.
Everyone took everyone’s picture. There was laughter and there were stories. Ron, Greetje’s husband, must have felt a bit out of place with all that girl talk around him, hahaha. But he took it as a sport and even picked up the cheque at the end! Sweet guy!
When we sailed back it was getting dark rapidly. But the boat ride to Central Station was a short one, and from there, us gals took the tram and car back home, while Ron sailed back his boat to it’s place in a harbor.
And here ends our fantastic day on a boat in Amsterdam; it was perfect! What was the best boat trip you ever had and why?
(Be sure to check out website iAmsterdam for lots of touristic information about Amsterdam. Visit my first blogpost about our day at the canals for information about cruising the canals of Amsterdam.)
Beautiful images Anja. It’s so nice to see them nice and big!
