We had dinner there with Frits’ children, which was nice and delicious.

Before dinner we were served an aperitive cocktail that was new to me: Aperol Spritz.
I loved, loved, loved it!
You may know that I don’t drink beer or wine.
I do like champagne and prosecco. A lot. Noooo, I don’t drink it a lot (I fall asleep after two drinks; yes I’m a true party animal, LOL). But I love bubbly a lot.
I also love cocktails, but of course they are superbad, alcohol- and calorie-wise. As is port, which I find yummie, but never drink.
And here there was this aperitive; tasty, fresh, sparkling, light.

This aperitif clearly has been around since many years, but it’s hyping again since a couple of years.

This is the recipe. Ofcourse you can play around with the quantities if you want to alter the taste, more or less strong, more or less sweet, etc.
In this video you can see how to mix it.
Since that first encounter with Aperol Spritz at the Pompstation, I am always on the look out for it. Not very actively, I must admit. But when I am in a bar or restaurant, I will often ask for it. Unfortunately they rarely have it. Maybe it’s a bigger hit in Europe, but here in Asia I get puzzled or blank looks when I ask for it.
So far I found only two bars in Singapore that have it ‘on the menu’: Divine on Parkview Square and Erwin’s Gastrobar at Ground Plaza in the Marina Bay area. Yay, good for you, Divine and Erwin’s! I hope that more bars and restaurants in Singapore will pick up on this trend.
Recently one of Frits’ friends-since-forever from Holland visited us in Singapore. What a pleasant surprise to find another Aperol Spritz fan in him! He might even be a bigger fan then I am;-).

Talking with him about the drink, inspired me to try and find out if and where in Singapore I could buy me a bottle, so that I can make the aperitif myself at home.
My quest led to just one, small shop that sells it (also online). But hey, one is enough, right?
So one day, I went to the address that I found on the web.
After an MRT ride and a walk, I found myself in front of a run-down shopping mall. Not really appealing.

The mall does not even look all that bad on my pics. But in reality it looks like a long forgotten mall where nothing exciting is happening.
Inside it was quite empty, although a pitch dark game hall (the light comes from my flash;-)) turned out stuffed with rows of gamers, even though it was midday!

There are at least 25 gamers inside this dark ‘hole’.

There was this tattooshop.

And this eatery. All quite depressing, I find. Not an uplifting environment.
The shop I came for, The Liquor Bar, was tiny (living room-size) but looked nice. And yes, they had a bottle of Aperol!!!
So now, a couple of times per week, just before dinnertime, I enjoy a delicious, refreshing Aperol Spritz at home.
Can you hear the ice cubes tinkling? Isn’t that the best sound ever, when it’s hot outside?
Did you know of Aperol Spritz? Do you like it? Is it widely available where you live? Do you know of more places in Singapore where they serve it?

I am with you… love cocktails and champaign. Actually you are the one that really got me hooked on champaign. Just so you know.
My favourite drink is Piña Colada, which you can also only get in some places so I hardly ever drink it.

Oh, I was not really aware of that; fun! (the champagne-infection;-)).
Pina Colada; love that drink, but in a superficial attempt to show at least some form of self constraint, that is one of the few drinks that I never allow myself. It is one big bomb of sugar, alcohol and calories, so I stick to Aperol or bubbly;-).
We recently vacationed in Switzerland and Italy, and many bars/restaurants, especially in Italy, had Aperol Spritz on the menu. In fact, I had never tried it, but so many women were drinking these bright orange drinks, that I had to ask a bartender what they were. She made me a ‘taster’ glass and I never looked back! Delicious!! I’m so glad that you have found places in Singapore to get Aperol Spritz drinks and buy the Aperol itself. I will be following in your footsteps shortly 🙂 Thanks for the heads up!! 🙂
Good plan, Emma, to also make it at home;-). Yes, I think it is way more known and more popular in Europe. Hopefully it will be picked up more here in Singapore in due time! Cheers;-)
Where is the shop? Thanks
Hi Harriet, The name is the Licquor Bar and this is the adress: 35 Selegie Rd, #02-21 Parklane Shopping Mall. Cheers!
