It started on the 7th of march and lasts until the 30th, so you only have about 5 days left to pay a visit to the festival, in case you missed it so far. And I can assure you that it is worth your while. The surroundings are gorgeous. It’s a leisurely stroll, in the evenings usually with a very pleasant breeze and temperature.

There are ample F&B options around. Permanent restaurants and bars, but also a whole lot of temporary ones, set up especially for the duration of the iLight Festival.
The light art installations around the bay provide for a lovely night out for young and old. The art is pretty, interesting and often interactive. There are possibilities to sit and relax everywhere along your stroll around the bay.

We visited last saturday and during the weekend there are additional activities, like live music, stilt walkers and so on. That has it’s plusses and it minuses. We loved our evening, but it was quite crowded. On the other hand, the area’s layout is so spacious and it’s promenades so wide, that the crowds do not bother you really. The good point is that it’s great for people watching. So it just depends on your taste. Are you more in for a quieter night, then choose a weekday. If you like a lot of buzz and peeps, then go on saturday or sunday.

Be sure to get a free map before you start your exploration. It helps and explains. On the other hand: hats of to the organization, because the instructions and explanations-on-site are clearer then ever. So you can easily find all the art works without a paper map in your hand;-).
There are 28 installations by artists from all over the world.

What’s with this dark car? Well, remember that the festival is all about sustainability? Now this car gets lit up from the inside if energy is provided by a bike on site.

This field of XL dandelions is very pretty. Each flower is made of recycled plastic.
Here is a ‘forest’ of lightbulbs that kept changing color. Also very poetic.
These are not all the works, but that leaves some for you to discover by yourself;-).
I would like to finish this post with the one artwork that I made the most pictures of.
Every 15 minutes there is a projection of 1 minute long on the outside walls of the Art & Science Museum. The show is named Celebration of Life.
People who follow me since a longer time may recall that the beautiful shape of the museum has been used as a ‘screen’ more often, usually with beautiful results. You can read previous posts about that here and here.
First we watched the show from the foot of the Museum.
Later on we watched it again, but now from the other side of the bay. Even after four and a half years I still find it the most gorgeous skyline and a fantastic area.

Wow. I LOVED that lightbulb cloud! It would be so cool to own that.
It looks very interesting. It reminds me of the old toy I had as a kid. Lightbrite. You could make all kinds of designs on it and light it up.

That lightbulb cloud was indeed very cool! I would not mind it above my dining table either. And because all the bulbs have their own cord, you could play with the amount of light and the exact positioning of the light ray.
Never heard of Lightbrite. Have to google it to see what you are talking about. Sounds great!

What an extraordinary looking festival. I especially love the look of the stepping stones. I can’t think of anything like this in the UK.
No? There is no equivalent in the UK? Well, no doubt you have lots of other interesting festivals en events!
Yes, I love iLight; the whole atmosphere and location are unique.
