Until march 26th you can visit a special exhibition in one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful churches.

The artist is Marinus Boezem, a Dutch artist, fascinated by gothic architecture. Location: Oude Kerk Amsterdam, Dutch gothic style, dating back to around 1300-1550.

Oude Kerk Amsterdam
I visited this gorgeous church a couple of times before, once for a tango event.
The day that we visited the Oude Kerk for the Marinus Boezem exhibit, it was a very cold, but sunny winter day. The light fall inside the church was really pretty!

This church has four organs, stained glass windows, graves, chapels, paintings, decorations and an impressive wooden ceiling.

One of the organs in the Oude Kerk.

The ceilings are spectacular!
Worthwhile a visit even when there is no special event or exhibition held there.
Marinus Boezem exhibition
There are regularly contemporary art exhibitions and concerts in this authentic church.
The current exhibit fits perfectly in this location.

The highlight of the exhibition- literally- is an installation called Into the air.
A construction elevator, brings visitors one by one to a height of 15 meters, providing a unique view over the whole church.

A piccolo brings you up.
At the highest point you come face to face with a round mirror with a message by Marinus Boezem.

Message from Marinus Boezem.
The ride in the elevator was a bit shaky and I have to admit that I gave a little scream every now and then. 15 meters is quite high, really!

Labyrinth, another art installation, creates a small maze around one of the thickest pillars of the Oude Kerk.

Looking up, the curtains reveals a snailhouse-shaped part of the ceiling.

Meteorites are shattered mirrors, spread out on several spots on the church floor.

The mirrors are like fallen stars, reflecting the ceiling in a fragmented way.
There are some other installations, but where’s the fun in revealing all of them, right?
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and definitely recommend it!
