Where to stay in Groningen
My personal experiences
I stayed in three hotels during my citytrips in Groningen:
- Schimmelpenninckhuys: a historic building on a prime location, but I found my room cramped and dated
- Asgard Hotel: a trendy hotel on a good location.
I liked the design and interior decor, but I found the rooms overpriced. At half the price, I would probably have said: ‘Good hotel’, but for the price it is, I don’t recommend this hotel.

I stayed there during an ice-cold winter-weekend and I felt very cold in my room.

I felt the hotel lacked personal warmth and intimacy.

- Hampshire Hotel Plaza Groningen.

My lousy picture of the Hampshire Hotel by night.
This hotel lies 5 km outside the city, amidst beautiful nature.

I loved the dew on spiderwebs, leafs and flowers. The morning mist made everything magical and mysterious.
It’s a huge, business-type hotel, but it suited me fine. I enjoyed walking around the hotel after breakfast, along the lake, named Hoornsemeer en Paterswoldse Meer.

Map of the lake and all that’s there to see and do.

It was very foggy and thus dewy during my early morning stroll that day. I made so many gorgeous pictures during my walk!

The rest of that weekend in 2008 the weather was sunny and I was able to have a drink on a terrace at the Paterswoldse Meer.
