Where to eat and drink in Groningen

July 19, 2016

There are so many choices in Groningen when it comes to coffee-places, cafes, bars and restaurants, that it’s impossible to try them all out. Certainly not when you are just visiting the city once a year, like myself.

It really was a cold, cold weekend, the last time I visited Groningen!

That does not stop me from helping you out though! Here are my tips for where to eat and drink in Groningen.

Good quality coffee and barista’s are a global trend that you also see in Groningen. There are at least 30 places in town where you can get a good cuppa coffee.

Maybe you’re not a coffee-lover, but more of a tea-aficionado. Then check out Toet, that specializes in tea and dessert. Koko T Bar is focussed on tea as well.

Oh, and don’t make the mistake to look for coffee in a ‘coffeeshop’, especially not if you see signs or colors that have to do with rastafarians or weed-leafs. Their merchandise is weed, NOT coffee!

This coffeeshop does NOT sell coffee;-)!

Recommended: Osteria Da Vinci

During my stay a local friend took me to Italian restaurant Osteria Da Vinci.

I had been walking in the snow, hence the red face. The food and company were good and we had fun.

The food is great and the staff was warm and personal.

Usefull links for F&B ideas in Groningen

  • Check out the map I made from Groningen with all the hotspots on it. Handy!!!
  • IENS: restaurants, reviews and reservations
  • Tripadvisor
  • Lonely Planet

Glossary:

  • F&B= Food and Beverage= bars, restaurants, cafes and coffee-places
  • serious cuisine: I made that up. Meaning: more on the high end, both in quality as in price. Often more formal setting, limited menu choices, multiple courses.

Do you have any coffee bars, restaurants, cafes or clubs in Groningen to add to my list?
