My favourite street art in Sydney - part 1

“My favorite street art in Sydney” sounds straightforward enough, doesn’t it? There is so much fantastic street art there though, that I found it hard to choose my favorites from the hundreds of street art pictures I took during my explorations.

Anyway, I gave it my best and here is my first selection.

(You can expect more batches during the next months, every now and then.)

1. I love this wall with its rounded brickwork, the characteristic window and the wheat paste street art.
2. Stencil street art. Did you know that we used to have a Dalmatian at home when I was young? I loved that dog! When I moved out, I sometimes called my parents, so that they would keep the phone at the dogs ear while I talked to him. My mother would then report back to me: “Oh, now he’s tilting his head to the left. Oh, and now he looks happy.”. Animal-lovers do the strangest things, don’t we they.
3. Intriguing wall art on a house in Surry Hills, Sydney.
   Made me think of Hieronymus Bosch.
   So funny that I only discovered later, looking closely at this picture, reading the text above the mural, that it IS indeed based on Hieronymus Bosch!
   Between the ages of 20 to 40 (roughly) I was a very active art lover. I taught myself everything, back then.
   The last decade or so, though I still love art, I am not very active nor up-to-date any longer. But I still benefit from what I saw and learned back then, like with this mural.
4. Scorpio-ish lady?
5. Love this mural. Cool lettering (one of my recent obsessions, by the way. Having fun trying out fonts with a calligraphy pen) and happy quote.
6. This mural is intriguing.
   I see a woman who makes a certain gesture. (While Googling I read this supposedly is the cheating wife gesture. Really?!)
   I see her dress going all the way to the left. There we see a black cat. In her hair we see the head of a dog. On the right, is that a fish? Then there is the rainbow. Is this a pro-gay mural? Any ideas? Please tell me in the comment section.
7. I saw this mural from our balcony in Sydney. It was pretty far away. I tried to find it back, strolling through the neighborhood, but never succeeded. I like the mix of styles and the two faces.
   Things can look very different from high above and from street level.
8. A mirror with the face of a woman? man? with short hair and a public transport map. You can see me taking the picture in the mirroring surface.
9. A very pretty, colorful mural. A bit hippie style. Made me think of Mandalas
10. Detail of the previous mural. Cute. I see a Matrushka doll, two Day of the Dead skulls, a moth, a snowflake and a diamant.

My favorite picture is no. 1, because of the colors and atmosphere of the picture. My favorite street art is no. 5, maybe due to my current lettering obsession.
