Selfie Sunday #8 - tango, three girlfriends and two Saluki’s

December 7, 2014

About 14 years ago, I met my friend Jessica through tango. She gave tango-lessons in my hometown and we became friends.

Jessica is a special lady with lots of talents. She is one of the best tango teachers I know, she’s a great chef, gardener and an artist. Ofcourse she’s a cool, sweet woman too, otherwise we would not be friends.

After a while I began to help her out with her lessons. Sometimes as her assistant/dance partner, other times partnering with students without a dance partner, often both.

One day Jessica told me about this promising new student, Yvonne. She turned out indeed to be very talented, and not just in tango dancing. She knows all about vintage, antiques, interior decorating and much more. A very creative, stylish and sensitive person. On top of that she’s lovely.

Soon we all became friends and a we grew a habit of meeting up once per week.

That’s what we still do up to this day!

On thursdays Yvonne and I travel to the town where Jessica has her tangoschool. Jessica takes care of the food (she’s a great cook, as I said earlier) and either Yvonne or I bring bubbles. We chat and we sip and we knibble. We laugh and we cry. We enjoy each other’s company so much! In the evening we attend Jessica’s lessons and help out (if Jessica can use us). After that there is a tango salon where we get social and dance with her students. Many of whom we know since many years now.

Jessica has dogs, always had, and at this moment she has two. And what dogs they are! These two Saluki-gents are such characters! They are huge, beautiful, super arrogant and stubborn. One of them sings like Salukis do; unbelievable. Have you ever heard a Saluki sing? If you are curious, there are videos on YouTube. And they both adore Jessica; Saluki’s sure are no “everybody’s friends”, on the contrary.

They can behave in such a diva way that you can only laugh about it. Recently one of them was wearing a cone after surgery and my friend had to lift up the drinking bowl for him and bring it to his mouth. Soon the other one refused to drink from his bowl. Until Jessica would lift up his drinking bowl for him as well. Hilarious!

Do you have weekly (or at least regular) meet ups with friends? What do you usually do? Did you ever come across any Saluki’s? What do you think of this breed?

Not weekly meetings, but very regular with different bunch of friends … yes. And those are the best. What would we be without friends.
Looking very good, the three of you.

It is wonderful you have such great friends to enjoy.

    Her dogs sound hilarious.

I love how you are all wearing pastels.

Thanks, dear. I met up with them again on the beach (in a cosy lounge cafe) and the dogs were majestic and naughty again.
