Remember that a month ago, while in Holland, we invited a fashion and lifestyle blogger over from Canada? We being Greetje from No Fear of Fashion, a fashion blog, Sylvia from 40plusstyle, a fashion website, and myself. Our guest was Suzanne from Suzanne Carillo Style Files.
We had a blast, as you can see here, here and here. (And you can expect more posts about that fun week in the near future!)
Video Interview
One evening, Sylvia had a smart idea. She took advantage of this unique situation and decided to do a small video-interview with us. Her question to us was: “What makes a good fashion blogger?”. Looking at the video, I think in those few minutes we expressed and explored more “what makes a good blogger?” then specifically and only “what makes a good fashion blogger?”.
You can see the video here:
40PlusStyle
Sylvia published the video as part of a post in which she answers the question for herself and more extensively. It’s an interesting read, as are the comments of her readers. You can find that post here.
What’s your opinion?
It may come as a surprise to you, but to be honest I am not a real fashionista. Fashion is not a big thing for me, even though I love clothes and style. Ofcourse I would lie if I would say that my personal style is not influenced by fashion and trends at all. That is almost impossible, unless you would live on a deserted island or something like that. But the core of my style has more to do with my personality, my taste and self-expression, then anything else.
That’s why I am not very involved in the fashion blogger scene and I do not follow a lot of fashion blogs. When I do, it usually has to do with something extra; fashion plus, so you will, like:
- the pictures are superb
- great writing
- creative
- inspiring
- lot of humor
- art
- I feel connected with and drawn to that blogger as a person
- the blogger is a IRL friend
How about you? Is fashion important for you? Do you read fashion blogs? What attracts you in a blog? How does a blogger get you interested and excited?

Being one of the three in the video you know my opinion. I like to follow blogs which give me “pointers”. Smart tips which I can use to improve my own style. Bit by bit, step by step I am getting better. Although I still cannot mix and match the way you do. Secretly I still have lots of outfits which I wear only in one particular combination. Shssst… don’t tell anyone. LOL
And of course I follow blogs who are fun, written with lots of humor.

Pointers, eh? Reading that I asked myself what is my primary word and I came up with ‘inspiration’. Interesting…
Oh, and about your one-time-only outfits; I know, gal, I know;-).
Argh! That photo from when I got off the plane! With no makeup! LOL
You and I are quite creative in what we will come up with as far as outfits are concerned. I don’t even know that I look to fashion blogs for much inspiration as much as finding people that are like minded.
bisous
Suzanne
No, you looked fresh!
And you are right; I have to clarify what I meant. I certainly did not mean inspiration about fashion or how to dress. I meant inspiration in a general way. In the way that a personality, someone’s skills or art can inspire you. No, looking at other blogs for fashion inspiration? I don’t think I ever did that.
