Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid has designed a huge multi-functional complex. Supposed to be finished in 2010, the building and site are still ‘under construction’ today. But it is said that it should be ready now this april (2014). We shall see;-)….
The subway station underneath is already accessible and in operation.

Isn’t it cool how the building seem to envelop other parts like a snail crawling over a branch or something? See the person for the scale, by the way.
The historical, archeological museal part of the complex is ready and accessible too.
While demolishing the old, run-down stadium, archeological discoveries were made. How exciting is that?!
The spectacular contemporary building is supposed to become a main hub for fashion, for design, a library, education, shopping mall, with a huge park around it.
The fact that the whole building is ‘fenced of’ with ugly green nettings and orange pilons is frustrating, since it looks so appealing and inviting to explore from each and every angle.

You can get an overview, sort of, just from pretty far away:-(.

You can spot some green netting in the middle of the pic.
The construction looks fluid and flowing, and sure makes a statement.

Everything is curved, even the railings, stairways and small walls.
I hope to return to Seoul in the near future and hopefully I will then find DDS finished and approachable in all it’s unique glory!

I love this sculpture, made from flattened bottles and other recycled materials.

I always like you find it great to explore. I think it looked much better from up close rather than far away. This reminds me of a building in downtown LA, the Disney Concert Hall.
That sculpture is fun. I love that it is made out of recycled pieces.

Unfortunately we missed that building when we were in LA; too little time! Next time then…;-)
I love architecture, old or new - As long as it speaks to me or adds to the existing environment -
Oh! i solved my hair dilemma - i shaved it!
Me too, Ariane (about my love for architecture).
What?! You shaved your hair? Wow. Why? That’s so radical! Are you happy with that decision? Must be very cold!
