Kek lok Si temple, third and final part.

January 20, 2014

In the previous two posts about Kek Lok Si temple in Penang, I showed you around at the top level and at the main mid-level.

The last things I would like to show you from the main level are:

This gate…..

I think this is done by one of the Tiger Balm brothers who were also responsible for Haw Par Villa.
What a nice surprise, since I love that place!

…and this row of life sized buddhas, some of which have fresh flowers in their hands.

Let’s now take a few steps down to the lowest level: a square with a turtle pond called Liberation Pond.
From the center of that pond an (inaccessible) pagoda filled with small buddhas rises up.

What a gorgeous tiled circular roof!
The walls of the pond are mosaiced and in the shape of a lotus flower. The base of the pagoda is as well.
In all the niches are buddha figurines.

On one side of the square is an elevated covered circle with a buddha, surrounded by worshipping monks.

There is a deer listening to the Buddha as well, next to the monks;-).
Finally, we are heading down and out of the temple.
There is a long covered stairway, lined with shops. It seems endless. In the beginning, the decoration of the beams and ceiling of the cover is quite pretty.
And the advertisement posters here and there look very vintage kitsch. Love.
After that it gets dark in the covered walkway, without any daylight.

I’ll take that as my cue to end your tour through Kek Lok Si temple.
Hope you enjoyed yourself. I know we did!
