In number of cities around the world, couples spontaneously began to attach small locks to bridges. They attached something personal to the lock, like a card with a text, or a heart, a soft toy, all sorts of things. The idea is to connect each other and your love via that lock. Throwing away the key into the river seals your love and connection for ever.
A romantic idea, sweet. It often makes for photogenic sites, with all the different locks and small personal expressions.
To my surprise I stumbled upon a fence with Love Locks in Singapore, during one of my walks, a while ago.
Wow, how cool!
But….Singapore would not be Singapore, if it would allow ‘wild’ spontaneous initiatives for Love Locks.
Remember my posts about street art in Singapore, like this one and this one? And how I explained that the sparse examples of street art that you will come across in Singapore are -in many cases- commissioned or at least made with permission?
Well, Singapore’s Love Locks are ‘institutionalized’ too.
Look at how it’s done in Singapore:
The locks are hung at a designated place. At that place there is information and explanation about the phenomena.
Love Locks are for sale there. Just throw in your dollars in a machine.
Then you can hang that purchased, standardized lock at this small fence. Fortunately it is not forbidden to bring your own lock with your own card or your own personal touch and style.
We decided to seal our love with a lock too. We brought our own lock and card and attached it to that fence.
Ours is a teeny tiny lock.

| To him the honor to throw the tiny key into the river. |

| See his arm and hand in the left upper corner? That’s him doing the actual throw. Exciting, right?! Hahaha…. |
Institutionalized or not; it is still a sweet ritual and we enjoyed participating in it. Are there Love Locks in your town? Or have you seen any in a city that you visited? What do you think of this small love ceremony? Would you attach a lock with your significant other?

Although we’ve often visited Paris we have yet to see that famousLove Lock bridge there. If we ever do get to it I’d love to leave a lock, since I did meet my husband in France.
Those photos of you guys placing your lock are cute. Especially the one with the arm! LOL

Yeah, I was supposed to catch the throwing arm and key while in the air, but we did not have our countdowns synchronized. With this fab result, LOL.
So you guys met in Paris?! How special and romantic! Were you there both on holidays?
Did you get a fine for littering? Haha
Thankfully not;-)!
