A cat and her coffee.

October 12, 2013

Really? I met a cat that loves coffee? No, ofcourse not! But I DID meet her at Starbucks. Several times!

During our month in the W Hong Kong, I went to Starbucks in the adjacent Elements Mall for my daily cuppa cappu and lunch.

Imagine my surprise when one day, I spotted a red and white cat sitting on one of the tables.

She looked around, totally relaxed, while her owners read their newspapers and sipped their coffees.

How remarkable!

Other times I found her sitting on one of the chairs and on a couch.

Picture provided by owner Karen.

And when her owners leave Starbucks, one of them puts Fafa, because that’s her name, on her or his neck and shoulder area and the cat will just ly or sit there and travel like that.

This picture and the following ones were kindly provided by Karen, Fafa’s owner.

Amazing, isn’t it?!

They even took Fafa to see the giant Rubber Duck when it was in Hong Kong harbor. You know, the one from the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. I saw it in Amsterdam. Would have been nice to see the Duck in Hong Kong, but we were not there at that moment. Well, at least Fafa got to see the Rubber Duck. Hope she appreciated it;-).

This picture I find a bit scary. To see Fafa at a ledge at this height. But I have no doubt that her owners know what they are doing.

Ofcourse I went over to take some pictures and to ask Karen, the woman who owns Fafa about this special cat. That’s how I came to learn her name and that Fafa is two years young.

I miss my cat Guust, who is back home in the Netherlands (and who is loved by his caregiver Saskya very much)…..

Guust sitting next to me in my garden in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Guust, enjoying the summersun in my garden. Behind him you can see him in the painting, next to a lovely dog I once befriended and Guust’s brother Dozo, who died 7 years ago.

…. so meeting Fafa made my day(-s). Or at least my lunches;-).

Ok then, two more pictures of Fafa, given to me by Karen: at her home, Fafa playing and Fafa relaxing on bed;-).

Would you be amused, amazed and thrilled by an unexpected animal encounter like this? Or would you object to animals in a Starbucks?

Oh, she is a beauty! And not often one can see a cat travelling like that with its owners. I like it when I see pets in a restaurant.

Personally I think it is sweet when animals are allowed in places of business. I think it makes the space warmer.

I am an animal lover by nature though : )

I like it too, Suzanne. Singapore, where I live a big part of the year is very strict about that. Pets can go or be almost nowhere. I understand the issue with the many Indians and muslims living here, but I find it too bad:-(.
