Singapore’s National Day 2013

September 9, 2013

We have witnessed Singapore’s National Day three times in previous years and were never that excited about it.
So this year we decided, like so many people in Singapore do, to use the day of for a long weekend and take of to Taipei. We had a great time there about which I wrote a series of posts.

But, in Singapore, they do nothing without the necessary preparations and rehearsals. That’s why we usually, living along Marina Bay, pick up something from the celebrations anyhow. As we did this year.

We went to dinner at Level 33, a restaurant-bar that we like for the wonderful views, and witnessed the last of the big rehearsals from there.

Walking over there, we saw many people dressed in red (the national color) and a National Day Festival for the little ones: My First National Day. Funny!

We walked a bit further and went up to the 33th floor.
We had our dinner inside and our after-dinner drinks outside, overlooking the bay.

We both LOVE this neighborhood so much. The views, the breeze, the pedestrian areas and the happening place. Really nice!

The tribune at The Float is looking red from all the spectators dressed in red.

Like every year the flag is flown around by military helicopters. After which Singapore’s jets fly over.
Isn’t it a magnificent sight?!
There is a big show going on on the Float.
And ofcourse the night is concluded by fireworks. It was nice!

So even though we are not really National Day fans, it was nice to watch the spectacle like this.
And we are really, really going to miss the Marina Bay area from november onwards!!!
Why? Well, we are not extending our lease at the Sail. I wrote about this high-end condominium here (we just moved in and were very enthusiastic) and here.
During the 4 years that we lived here, we have seen the building and it’s surroundings deteriorate fast. Be warned: do not choose to live at the Sail!
More about that in my next post.
