Nek Chand Rock Garden in Chandigarh, part 3

September 14, 2012

Let’s continue our exploration of the Nek Chand Rock Garden.

As we learned yesterday, the whole place is built from scrap. Literally. All the materials are recycled. One of the materials he used were bangles. You know, the famous Indian bracelets that are very commonly worn up to this day.

Often made out of glass.

This material creates very colorful statues, as you can imagine. Judge for yourself:
Gorgeous, isn’t it?!
And like with all the groups, there are not 10 of them, but maybe even a hundred or so.

This group is made with bangles also, but looks very different:

Enough about the bangles creations, here are some other figurines:
Guys in shorts and pants. With in the backgrounds a colorful peacock made with bangles.
A more modest looking group. But beautiful as well.
Beggars, I think, holding out a bowl to put money in.
These statues looked Romanesque or Ancient Greek to me. But it could also be the look of a local community.
Who are you ladies? Are you goddesses?
Well, this was your portion of statues for today. To be continued tomorrow.
