Manila part 11: Intramuros, ancient Manila

October 9, 2011

One thing that I would have loved to see in Manila was the Coconut Palace, one of Imelda’s creations. Unfortunately it was closed:-(.
So we ended up visiting Intramuros: the ancient walled fortress part of Manila.
The weather was not too good, so the light conditions were not really nice.
It was still interesting to walk around there, take a peak in some churches and in some of the historic buildings. Here is an impression in pictures:

The police in this area wears a special uniform and hat.
A marriage going on; group picture.
I want this chandelier @home.
And this chandelier too!
A medieval restroom? Hahaha…..
This building consists of many levels, inner courtyards, balustrades….romantic!
This office seems closed;-)
Another policeofficer in that special uniform
Inside this building are some souvenirshops, bars and restaurants.
The marriage ceremony is over and now it is time to take some pictures in front of the church.

I’m gonna finish this series of posts about Manila with number 12: Miscellanious.

I have to be honoust: Manila is not a nice city, in my opinion.

It really is congested with traffic all the time, air pollution, noisy, smelly, dirty, ugly, not very safe, and full of decay and poverty.
The people I’ve encountered nevertheless were generally friendly and smiling.
And as you have been able to read in some of my posts about Manila, the Shangri-La’s are heavenly!

Anyway, it was an experience and I’ve tried to make the most of it. All in all I had a good time.

I hope you enjoyed this series about Manila: I was there, I explored it, I photographed it and I wrote about it, so that you don’t have to go there.
You’re welcome! 😉
