Antwerpen Centraal most beautiful railway station in the world

Visiting Antwerp with my dad and my brother

When my dad told us that he was keen to visit the renovated railway station of Antwerpen: Antwerpen Centraal, my brother and I decided to take him there.

Antwerpen Centraal was built between 1895 and 1905 in an eclectic style with elements of Art Nouveau, classicism, neo-renaissance and other architectural styles.

The station is sometimes referred to as Middenstatie.

If you want to read more about this fabulous building and about it’s history, then check out the articles here and here.

Antwerpen Centraal was named the 4th most beautiful railway station of the world in 2009 by Newsweek magazine and in 2014 it was called out as THE most beautiful railway station by magazine Mashable.

The grand hall sure is impressive, isn’t it?!

I have of course been to Amsterdam Centraal numerous times, which is a beautiful station as well. I also love Haarlem station, which is a gorgeous example of art deco architecture. And I find New York Grand Central pretty awesome too.

What do you think? Is Antwerpen indeed the world’s most beautiful railway station? Or do you have another favourite?

A perfect location for flashmobs

It’s for sure popular for flash mobs. Like for musical scenes….

… and once for a ballet scene.

Very cool!

Aren’t flashmobs the best, for lifting up the spirits of all the people that get surprised by such cheerful events?! They always bring a big smile on my face and make me intensely happy! Do they have the same effect on you?

Wow! Spectacular! I really want to visit that station now.

I’ve been to Belgium before but have no recollection of the station at all. I have a feeling I might have flown in.

Those flash mobs were great. I especially loved the first one. Makes you wonder why all the world can’t just get along and dance.
