In my article about Duong Dong town, I showed you lots of temples in that city, that are nice to pay a visit to.
Ho Quoc Pagoda does not ly in Duong Dong town and it deserves a special mention.
Ho Quoc Pagoda Phu Quoc
Great location with beautiful views
It’s not an old temple, on the contrary, but the location is really beautiful. That alone already makes it worth a visit!

Looking out over the sea from the highest level.
This big Buddhist temple stands high on a mountain with spectacular sea views.

You climb via some steps to the first level from where you can reach the main level via huge, impressive stairs surrounded by stone dragons.

Stairs leading to the first level.

Dragons, stone warriors and lots of buddha’s

Peek-a-boo!
On that higher level you are met by huge warrior-like figures.

They are really enormous!

Inside the pagoda are all kinds of Buddha’s and a Buddhist drum.

For the rest there is not much to see and do, but visiting this temple can be an interesting part of a day trip by scooter. We liked it!
Phu Quoc - yay or nay?
This article concludes my mini-series about Phu Quoc.
As promised I’ll now give you my verdict about the island: should you book a flight to visit Phu Quoc asap? Or are you too late already?
I say ‘nay’
I’m afraid that I’m leaning towards the latter.
- The island looks like a big construction site. And we all know what that means: ugly, noisy and messy. Maybe the island will be more appealing in 5 years from now, when the bulk of the constructions is finished. Yes, it will then be filled with hotels, bars, restaurants and roads, but at least it will no longer be a construction site.
- Pollution and lack of waste management are a big problem. This too contributes to the uglification of the island.
So the pretty, peaceful, paradise experience that you may be looking for, is hard to find on the island.
Having said that, there are still lovely places on Phu Quoc Island. Secluded places in which you are not confronted with construction and filth. Amongst those spots are budget-friendly places too, which may still make this an attractive destination for those budget travellers who don’t need lots of activities, highlights and partying.
Have you visited Phu Quoc? Would you recommend it? Is it a yay or a nay in your opinion? Please let me know in the comments; I’m curious to know.
