Best beaches of Phu Quoc

Where to find the best beaches of Phu Quoc

There are lots of beaches all around the island, each with their own characteristics.

Enjoying the beaches of Phu Quoc

Some are prettier, or more developed, others untouched, some are easy to reach, others are hard to find.

The beaches we visited

Long Beach at Salinda Resort

The beach at Salinda Resort, with sunbeds.

As I wrote earlier: the beach here is not very wide and it does not have that real Bounty Island feel, but it’s okay and at least it is maintained and kept clean by Salinda Resort. And it’s peaceful too.

Stretches of beach in Duong Dong town

You can stroll around there, but it is no beach for sunbathing or swimming.

Beach in Duong Dong.

Duong Dong is an active fishing town, which you can smell at many locations.

‘Working’ beach, for fishermen.

Also, people are living on the water, in houses on stilts, which gives waste and pollution.

Onlang Beach at Mango Bay Resort

Again not a very big beach, but secluded and quiet en we really liked this resort.

It’s super chill to hang out on the deck of their bar, have a Mango Mojito, do your own BBQ-ing at your table and watch the sunset.

Sao Beach at Paradiso Beach Club

By far the most beautiful beach I have seen in my life.

It’s really picture perfect and it was not very crowded that day.

What I did see and hear (in the distance, luckily) were jet skis, which are always a total nuisance. Very noisy and very polluting. It’s really a shame they allow these things in a quiet, paradise-like environment like Sao Beach.

I also saw an ugly, ginormous, inflatable floating swim paradise. Luckily it was lying on shore when we were there, and out of our sight, but I saw pictures from it floating in the sea and it is monstrous.

So gorgeous!

Paradiso Beach Club, the building right behind the beach, is a lovely beach bar. You have everything you need here for a nice day at Sao Beach: food, drinks, sun beds, parasols, towels, showers and restrooms. Plus the beautiful surroundings.

Don’t get me wrong; I could totally like a gimmick like that somewhere else, but it is completely misplaced in this location.

Sao Beach should be preserved as a peaceful, relaxing beach, while e.g. Long Beach would be a much more logical place for fun and partying.

Frits always goes in the sea several times, for a short swim and some cooling down.

And this is usually how far I will go: ankle deep it is.

This swing at Sao Beach must be the most photographed spot in the area. I don’t know why, but swings on tropical beaches are super popular on Instagram.

Frits takes a swing too.

Bai Dam Beach at Ho Quoc Pagoda

While visiting Ho Quoc Pagoda, we saw this pretty and deserted beach from the road, way down.

Empty beach at Phu Quoc island |curlytraveller.com

This beach looked deserted and pretty.

This stretch looked pretty (nothing there, though, no sunbeds, no beach bars), but we did not check it out from close by. (We saw some people swimming and I read later that it is indeed an unspoiled beach.)

We decided to do that a bit further down the road.

Here and there there was a vague footpath through the wild vegetation, leading to the beach. We got of the bike and waded through the bushes, expecting to find a small patch of pretty beach, all for ourselves.

Wading Frits. With sexy helmet.

To our disappointment all we stumbled on was a patch of sand, filled with waste and garbage, and a shack, maybe built by a fisherman or something.

What a filthy mess!

Usefull information about Phu Quoc’s beaches

The website Vietnam Coracle gives a great overview of Phu Quoc’s beaches.

PhuQuocIslandGuide also provides good info on Phu Quoc’s beaches.

Have you been to Phu Quoc? What was your favourite beach?

What is the prettiest, nicest beach you ever visited?
