where to find street art in Singapore update 2016

October 8, 2016

In 2014 I bundled all my info about street art in Singapore in one article, titled The Ultimate Guide for street art in Singapore.

Time for an update.

Graffiti at M Hotel Singapore |curlytraveller.com

Wow, those colors! You can find this one at M Hotel Roberson Quay.

Street art hubs and wall pieces tend to come and go

As I explained in my article from 2014, street art is almost per definition a temporary medium. It comes and it goes.

I liked this one. It’s energetic and fun! But it’s gone since a while already.

Some pieces can be admired only for one or two days, others may last many years.

This fantastic mural in Haji Lane is there since years now and it’s impressive as ever.

There are locations with a lot of street art and graffiti that remain for years and years, maybe with a change of wall art, maybe with the same pieces.

Graffiti for Black Market at Somerset Skatepark |curlytraveller.com

Somerset Skatepark remains popular amongst street artists. Unfortunately these days it is rare to find art there that is worth your while.

And there are locations that are tore down or that get another destination and stop being a street art hub.

Also there are the single pieces here and there. Not part of a cluster of artworks, but just a mural here and a mural there.

I was not able to fit it nicely together. Otherwise you would have seen better that a bottle of Tiger Beer (local beer) has fallen over and now the beer flows all the way to the tiger on the other side, filling him up with color. This mural is on the wall of a popular bar: KPO.

Good street art locations that are staying strong throughout the years

Most of the hubs that I mentioned in my previous article are still in use by street artists today:

  • Scape

Look how cool: seen from the front it looks like a flat wall, but seen from the side you see it’s actually very curved; a sea container, I think.

I LOVE this work. Very colorful and vibrant.

How moving is the melancholy in the eyes of this gorilla…

Hilarious, this one. Those faces, these colors!

  • Somerset Skatepark
  • Haji Lane

Recent work by my favorite Singapore street artist: Ceno2.

I actually ran into the artist while he was making this huge mural. I was thrilled; huge Insta-fan of his. And he was ever so nice.

    In progression.

  • the underpasses along the Singapore River
  • Kampong Glam
  • Joo Chiatt.

Areas that have gotten more street art over the last years

  • There are some nice, historic murals in Chinatown.

  • I spotted these fun cats in Holland Village.

So cute and well done, all these cats!

Hahaha…

  • There are more and more good murals in Little India.

Love this one. Grrr…that truck…

Race course meets Little India in Singapore in this mural |curlytraveller.com

Race Course Road, the name kinda gives it away, once was a Race Course. So this long mural refers to it’s olden days, mixed with it’s current destination as Little India.

Very cool!

  • And Tiong Bahru has its fair share of street art.

Collect street art locations by reading these articles

Check out these articles for more info on specific murals in Singapore and where to find them:

  • article by The Honeycombers
  • article by ExpatLiving.SG about street art
  • even Home and Decor had an article about street art in Singapore
  • GOAWAY.SG mentioned some interesting street art to check out
  • Cheekiemonkies did their exploring together with their kids

Ofcourse there is a lot more street art and graffiti out there.

Inside a shoppingmall along Orchard.

It’s just very spread out. So either you have to do your homework, research the web and social media, and make sort of your own map, or you have to go out there (everywhere) a lot and that way improve your chance to stumble upon nice street art here and there.

I’m always on the lookout for street art. Here inside a foodcourt on an airstreamer.

Fun!

This city seems to be filled with street art.

So fun you got to meet one of the artists while he was working!

Loved the cat behind the sign.
