Always wanted to have a look inside my quirky ‘more is more’ house in Holland? Here’s your chance!
Have a look at these snapshots, taken in some of the many Curious Corners of Casa Curly.
You could call my home a case of quirky interior decorating. Or an art installation. Or quirky? Weird? Too much? Not enough?
Look around and decide for yourself;-).
Let the tour begin:
This metal Day of the Dead Diabla found it’s place in one of my Mexican corners. It is cosy-ly backlit by Christmas lights, because it’s Christmas year-around in my home.
This cute monkey-in-a-suit climbs up the rope if you pull on it. In the back some of my Chinese porcelain cups.
Adorable polka-dotted pompommed lights in front of a doll head with eyes that can close.
I’m in love with these vintage kitschy flamenco cards ever since I was a kid. The embroidery and the real fabric dress are so deliciously tacky!
A tiny vintage doll, sitting in the beak of a toy dinosaur head. Why? Weird…
Hey, don’t look at me… Toys got a life of their own, you know!
This Mickey Mouse does gymnastic spins upon request. Just ask kindly;-).
His neighbor Mr Robot is the silent type. But the curl in his hair never fails; it’s just perfect!
The devil-magnet on my fridge doubles as a finger puppet. Behind it we see one of Nathalie Lete’s gorgeous magnets. She is one of my favorite designers/artists.
And then there is that quote. So very, very true!
The camera, made out of recycled tins, is made in Cuba. The tiny tuktuk, also made out of recycled tins, comes from Thailand. Behind it we see Chinese and kitsch porcelain. The pink flamingo coasters come from Georgetown, if I recall it well.
One of my many, many corners, filled with religious curios:
Maria napkins, Maria handkerchiefs, two Jezusses that can be stuck on pencils, holy water, a miniature bible and some other items. No religious meaning for me, not to be used, just leading their secret lives in their small world on a shelf.
There’s a lot going on here. Cowboys, a camel that can walk by itself, and in the background a number of mini-travel-altars. Adventures, adventures… We humans can only guess…
I hope you enjoyed your little exploration of the Curious Corners of Casa Curly. There are many more corners to discover. To be continued….

Thanks for the tour, Anja. So many visual delights, so many moving objects. So much imagination at play. The colours! You are such an artist. I’ve wondered what it would be like to live in a place like your home - sometimes I yearn for it. But my personality can yearn equally strongly for the opposite as well. I think I need two houses! Heh. Great photos. I loove those man’s pants on your cool flamenco card.
Do you live in a minimalist house then, Melanie? Curious to take a peek in your house!;-).
Well, you have your studio and your house, so that almost counts for two houses, right?
I do love your home. It is an ever changing exhibit for the mind and eyes. I love how it spurs on the imagination.
bisous
Suzanne
Thanks, gal. Can’t wait to see yours with my own eyes one day!
