The area around our hotel: construction sites all around.
Artists were contracted to make art on the fences, not just by painting them (like murals), but by using a mix of materials and techniques. Not only by working in 2D, but also in 3D, sometimes even interacting with elements like the wind to move the art.

Journey of wind- Do-young Kim Theme: Wind Numerous large windmills move in the wind.
Central theme were the five elements (water, earth, air, fire and light).
They did a fantastic job! I am very impressed to see a city make such an effort to make an area look appealing and artistic instead of ugly and dull. Wow, that is amazing, don’t you think?
Since the constructions area is a work in progress, not all 7.500 meters are there at this point of time. Fences around construction sites that have finished, have of course been removed already.
Also time and circumstances like weather and vandalism don’t do the art much good.

Like here, most of the lily pads have fallen of or have been vandalized (taken home?). The frogs (?) are still there, luckily.
“Rest” - by Yung-hee kim.
Theme: (strangely enough:) Earth.

The snails are still in good shape. Made from construction materials. Art like this makes me SO happy! Items used in ways that they were never meant for is so ingenious, creative and fun!
Still, there are many meters of Art Fence left, done by different artists, themed around the five elements that I mentioned before.
I enjoyed it tremendously and I highly recommend that you go and see them for yourself. Also because there are lots of sculptures on the streets, great architecture and ecological parks. I wrote about that here.
In my opinion it is an underestimated neighborhood, well worth a detour. You can easily spend a half day or even a full day, if you include a stroll through the nature parks and pay a visit to the media centre around, like the Korean Film Institute.
Let me share some of the Art Fences that I saw with you:

“Delivery of Love”- by Young-chui Sim Theme: Fire Painted flowers with 3D petals.

“City Travel” - by Mi-ae Han Theme: Light Parachutists descending over Seoul’s skyline. These fences are my favorites. All these parachutists, larger then life, so cool!
So what do you think? Are you as impressed as me?
Seeing these endless walls of art, creativity and fun really makes my day and my heart makes a little jump when I see street art like this.
I applaud everything and everyone that/who makes this world a feast for the eyes!
How about you? Does street art excite you too?
How to get there:
Take subway line 6 to DMC Station and walk a few minutes from there. The area is near the (better known) Seoul World Cup Stadium.
