Artists were contracted to make art on the fences, not just by painting them (like murals), but by using a mix of materials and techniques. Not only by working in 2D, but also in 3D, sometimes even interacting with elements like the wind to move the art.

Central theme were the five elements (water, earth, air, fire and light).
They did a fantastic job! I am very impressed to see a city make such an effort to make an area look appealing and artistic instead of ugly and dull. Wow, that is amazing, don’t you think?
Since the constructions area is a work in progress, not all 7.500 meters are there at this point of time. Fences around construction sites that have finished, have of course been removed already.
Also time and circumstances like weather and vandalism don’t do the art much good.

Still, there are many meters of Art Fence left, done by different artists, themed around the five elements that I mentioned before.
I enjoyed it tremendously and I highly recommend that you go and see them for yourself. Also because there are lots of sculptures on the streets, great architecture and ecological parks. I wrote about that here.
In my opinion it is an underestimated neighborhood, well worth a detour. You can easily spend a half day or even a full day, if you include a stroll through the nature parks and pay a visit to the media centre around, like the Korean Film Institute.

| “Mirror of Ants” - Hong-Jin Kim Theme: Earth Ants have organic societies, like humans do. These walls were my favorites, along with the parachutists at the end of this post. The variety of images, sizes, techniques and materials is huge! |

Seeing these endless walls of art, creativity and fun really makes my day and my heart makes a little jump when I see street art like this.
I applaud everything and everyone that/who makes this world a feast for the eyes!

How to get there:
Take subway line 6 to DMC Station and walk a few minutes from there. The area is near the (better known) Seoul World Cup Stadium.
