Singapore’s last Street Barbers

February 22, 2014

It seems that there are only four street barbers left in Singapore, while in the old days there were many of them around.

I read about them in this interesting blogpost by one of my favorite bloggers Spunktitud3. Her article includes a short video. Be sure to check it out! Another good read is this article with lots of pictures by Jennifer Teo.

Accidentally I stumbled upon one of these last street barber shops during one of my strolls.

Only to find it closed:-(.

The sign says 6 sgd, by the way. Not 62;-). Can you believe it; just 6 sgd for a haircut!

A week later, during another stroll in the same neighborhood, I found the barber at work;-).

As you can see there is a queue, waiting to be serviced.

It’s cool, that these last barbers keep going strong, as long as they physically can!

Are there any street barbers where you live? Did you ever get a haircut from one?

Well, IF he ever wanted to visit a street barber, I think Singapore would be best for that. In all other countries I would be scared for lice, flees and other nasty risks.

Were you planning on having your hair cut by this street barber Anja? Or were you “scouting” for Frits?
