Ofcourse there was the Biennale, that I already covered on this blog.
I missed The Affordable Art Fair, but was happy to read that due to it’s success they are going to organize another one in a couple of months from now. Hopefully I will be able to catch that one.
And then there was the three-day art fair “Art Stage Singapore”.
It was held in the expo halls from Marina Bay Sands and it was huge! I was totally overwhelmed, walking in the enormous space. For a minute I stood there, wondering where to begin and how to ‘(dis-)cover’ all this art.
This fair is mainly focussed on Asian art, but there was some european art as well.
Let me show you some of the art that caught my eye:

Without being aware of it in advance, I turned out to be especially drawn to art that involved fabrics and embroidery.

I loved this installation.
This piece was amazing! First I thought I was looking at a hologram. A closer inspection showed that I was dealing with several layers of veil-like fabric on which an image was painted.
The way the layers were draped in front of each other gave a transparent 3D image. Very intriguing!
Believe me; it looked better in reality.
Being so charmed by art using fabric came a bit as a surprise to me. The same can not be said of my attraction to the works of the mysterious norwegian streetartist Dolk.
His art is totally up my alley and I would purchase these works right away, if I would be a rich art collector with a gigantic house.
So very, very cool, Dolk’s art!
I have seen wings made out of thongs, which were quite spectacular. This time there were wings made out of badminton shuttles. Love it!
These strange creatures were intriguing:

A fish with air capsule eyes.
These creatures are not weird, but I liked them anyways;-):
The colors and materials (paper and print) of the following art works I find very appealing:
I was already familiar with the following Thai artist: Manit Sriwanichpoom. The pink man is a recurring theme in his work.
I spoke with the australian woman that made this work, Kristin McIver. Sometimes explanations about art just sounds like b***sh*t. Fancy talk. Blabla. Other times, like in this case, it adds to the appreciation of a specific artwork.

Thought Piece. This work is about ‘data’, FaceBook status updates, diaries, etc.
It seems she sold several works during Art Stage.
As did many other artists. Wow, when you read how many works were bought for how much money…incredible!!!!
The next two works are ‘just’ regular (as far as the used medium goes, that is) paintings that I like.
There is more art that I would like to share with you, but I leave that for another post.
CurlyTraveller the Art Lover says bye!
(for today;-))
Which art works appealed to you? Which one is your favorite? Would you buy any, if you had the money?

Oh my! This is my favourite post of yours yet. Thank you so much for sharing! How I would have loved to have seen that exhibit! So many fabulous pieces…so very different. I’m sure I could have spent days there admiring it all. That piece that looked like a Hologram is INSANE! Wow. Fantastic.
bisous
Suzanne
Yes, that one was very surprising and intriguing.
Well, I guess that next year, you will have to come over and we will go together!;-). No, I know that that will never happen. But I can still wish for it, right?;-)
Yeah…sadly Singapore is not top on my list of places to visit, even with all of your great posts about it. What if we met up in Amsterdam? ; )
That’s a great idea, Suzanne! When in Holland, Greetje and Sylvia are practically neighbors, so we can all meet up. We could have our own mini-blogger-conference, hahaha!
That veil piece is my favourite as well. So clever. Ron always says that art is something somebody made and it makes you stop and think / wonder. Which is one way of looking at it. I like art to be something which makes me happy or proud or intrigued when I look at it.
Greetje
How surprising that the veil work is many people’s favorite!
I agree with both of you. Art can be many things and do many things. I will get back to this topic, one day….;-)
