Ocean Park Cable Car Ride

November 11, 2013

Hong Kong has it’s Disneyworld. Frits suggested a couple of times to visit that while we were in HK. But due to his work we can only go on weekends, when it is super busy. I did not feel for that at all.

So we went to Ocean Park instead, one of Hong Kong’s older theme parks. My main reason was actually that there is a cable ride there that supposedly offers gorgeous views. Everything else entertaining or nice would just be a bonus.

I will show you the old-school, retro-kitschy look of the place and the actors/characters that walk around in another post. And I will lead you around the attractions in a separate post.

Let’s have a closer look at that cable car ride now.

The cable cars look super cute. Very retro, small, almost egg shaped cabins.

Each car has 5 seats. There are many of them. Really many. So we got a car for the two of us. Nice! Spacious AND intimate;-)

It was pre-Halloween period, so the cable cars were decorated in style. A pumpkin car;-)

Ocean Park is huge, huge, huge. And that day it was hot, hot, super hot. In fact it was too hot to set one foot before the other. So we were very happy to do this cable car ride.

It takes you over this hill, alongside the ocean (hence the name;-)), and the vista’s are beautiful!

Beautiful, isn’t it?!

From the next picture you might get the impression that you are alone in your cable car….

…but nothing is less true. In front of you there are at least 25 to 35 other cable cars, hanging as colorful lights on some strings. I find it a really fun sight!

At the end of the line(s), you can see another part of the theme park. It has a big wheel and other attractions.

Isn’t the scenery and location stunning?!

If we look to the right, there are other parts of Ocean Park.

More about these other parts of the park in another post. I really enjoyed our cable car ride. I hope you did too!

Thanks so much for sharing such a wonderful post about a great thing to do in Hong Kong. I was in Hong Kong a couple of years ago and was not aware of this location. We plan to go back and will definitely go there. Some of the views in your photos are breathtaking.

      Hi Christine,

Yes, it is definitely worth checking out. There are two more posts about Ocean Park coming up in the next weeks, so keep an eye out for those. After reading them you will have a pretty good idea of what this park is like;-). Did you also read my post about the 10.000 Buddha’s Monastery? That is worth a visit also, if you did not visit that yet!

HI! I love your blog about Ocean Park. I am planning to visit it on February. How much does the cable car ride cost? Is it not included in the Ocean Park ticket?

You were so lucky with the weather - great blue sky (for HK standards). It must have been the perfect day for a cable car ride!

Yes, the skies and views were perfect! It just was SO SO hot! For exploring the park, I mean. Hurray for the arctic experience then; cooling of!;-)
Yeah, I know, Sg is not big on clear blue skies either.
