Window shopping is not one of my hobbies. Especially not when it means that I can only look, because the stuff on display is way above my budget. For me that feels more like self-torture then like fun;-).
Except…..except when the window display itself is something special. Artistic, funny, original.
Have you ever been in New York around Christmas and New Year? Wow, the shop windows are like theatre decors; pretty tableaus. Imagination in 3D; I love it.
Here are some other shop windows and shop fronts that I enjoyed, over the past few years:
This is the front of an alternative CD- and music shop in Haarlem, the Netherlands:

| Fun ‘instrument’;-). |
This shop, neighboring that CD shop, sells bric a brac. The owner has her whole facade decoupaged, if that is a real word;-). She collected ‘pretty images’ for years and then used them to upcycle her window- and door frame. Isn’t it just fab?!
Totally different, but also nice, were the Louis Vuitton window displays at the time of their collaboration with the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, lady of Polka Dots.
The consistency in window decor and products works very well. These pics are taken in Singapore:
Also in Singapore was this underwater theme at Tangs, a while ago. I loved it! If you look closer, you will see the very simple materials that have been used like straws and cupcake papers. Inventive and with beautiful effect.

In India I saw very different window displays….

Often there is not even a window, but that does not stop them from making a very colorful and appealing shop front;-)
This tattooshop in Pune made creative use of mannequins:
It sure works in drawing your attention. And it is pretty too.
This shop window looked messy and full of weird stuff. Traditional costumes, swords, but also a little boy mannequin in a devil suit…I have no clue what the essence was. But at least the girl making the display was nice and funny;-)
Oh, this was in Taipei, Taiwan, by the way.
Let’s go back to Singapore.
The small shop of perfume brand Penhaligon’s is styled to perfection. And yes, they did a good job. Tastefull. It’s all ballerina’s at the moment, since their latest perfume is based on ballet.
With the following pictures I am cheating a bit, because they were poster walls, set up for an upcoming shop at that time. But I like it so much, that I include it in this post anyways;-)
Strangely enough these very funky ‘walls’ are to announce a shop with the most boring, ugly shoes. You didn’t see that one coming, right?
Well, that’s all, folks. Which one is your favorite? Do you like window-shopping?
