Love Dutch Art, by Ebs. Wooden shoes in the MTR.

September 29, 2013

As a teenager I wanted to rebel against my parents, like many youngsters do. I chose quite a peculiar way; I started wearing clogs aka wooden shoes. Like these ones:

Wooden shoes were last worn one or two generations back, by farmers when working in the clay.

So imagine my surprise when I came across a wooden shoe exhibit in Hong Kong!

Funny that the artist is not even Dutch; she is German.

It is a small exhibit; nothing worldshocking. But it IS about one of THE dutch symbols, like tulips and windmills.

If you would like to see them for yourselves, you can check them out at MTR Sheung Wan till october. So hurry!

And in case you wonder…yes, my wooden shoes did indeed annoy my parents very much. In fact, my mother threatened to take them away when I would be asleep and burn them. Together with my second hand fur coat;-).

Have you ever been in Holland? Ever worn a wooden shoe yourself?

I heard they can be very good for your feet and prevent back pain. I haven’t worn traditional clogs (yet :) ) Expressive art! Would like to make this art myself. Still have some tiny unpainted clogs in storage, this post is inspiration.

I have no idea wether they are good for feet and back, but could be, of course. And if you pimp some yourself, be sure to show me the result, ok?!
