Some months ago it was delivered at my doorstep: the thickest book of the century!
Fifteen whole centimeters thick.
2500 pages.
With 2500 drawings.
A-ma-zing!!!
“2500 dagen RuSt” is the result of a unique and ambitious project by artist Ruben Steeman (hence RuSt).
For years he made one sketch a day (aka: a drawn diary) which resulted in 2500 drawings. He got the idea to bundle those in a book.
Ruben succeeded to fund and realize the project via crowd funding and I was one of the participants who paid for her book upfront.
The artist encountered technical problems, since a book this thick had never been printed and made before and most publishers and printers said no. Their equipment simply could not make the book. Finally Ruben could find only one company, just one, that was willing to take on the challenge.
And in the end they succeeded.
I think it is fantastic. So bold!
You can order the book via Ruben’s website.
Language is not an issue, since the drawings speak for themselves. His blog, on which you can follow the process of the sketches, is in English.
And no, I do not know the artist personally nor do I have any personal gain in the matter. I’m just a fan and admirer;-).

That is not what one would call “light reading”. LOL
It does look cool though.
bisous
Suzanne
Light reading it is not. On the other hand it is. No text;-)
Now there is a fun and unusual coffee table book.
I have participated in a couple of crowd funding projects too but they never made it.
Greetje
I participated in two and they both made it. It’s such a fantastic way to fund and realize projects.
That is one amazing book for sheer size alone. I adore it. If I saw it in your home I would rush over and open it immediately. (I know, so rude!) I like that the artist persevered and found a publisher. The artwork looks wonderful, which is also a bonus! You would need a strong coffee table.
Not rude at all, Melanie, just inquisitive and curious. Which are good things in my book;-).Any plans of visiting Holland in the near future? Then I can show you the book in person.
I know, I have the book also. It is a really must have.
Sometimes I just open the book and think what that picture means for me.
How cool that you have and enjoy the book too, Margriet! It’s pretty special, right?
