Year of the Wooden Horse

As I told you in an earlier post, Chinese new Year is coming. On the 31st of january The Year of the (Wooden) Horse begins.

IKEA’s adds have the Chinese Zodiac and horses in this period.

I showed you the beautiful giant horse lanterns in Chinatown. I went back a few days later and at that moment the sun was shining. That really brought out the colors and shine of the silk horses.

The official light up was last saturday. I did not have a chance yet to visit in the evenings and see the lit lanterns, but hope to do so soon!

Horses are not only displayed in Chinatown. You can find them all around town in this period.

Here is a selection:

Window display in Tangs shopping mall, Orchard Road. I love their horses. They are muscled and fierce.
AND…..they are seahorses ;-)!
They have peacock-tails, and they have beautiful fish-scales on their heads and buttocks.
To be honest, what I see as fish-scales, might as well supposed to be peacock-feathers. Ah well, whatever they are, these horses are fantastic fantasy creatures!
I also love the crystals amidst the fish-scales (or peacock-feathers;-)).

Window display in Robinson’s at Orchard Road.
I love the golden horses with the red curled-up ribbon-ropes.

On Orchard Road itself are three origami-pink horses; you see two of them here.

Last saturday, in Somerset 111, an artist worked on a horse, decorating it with marshmallow-‘paint’ and gummies!

The artist in front of her work.
Hahaha…do not consume…..!
Horses in other shop windows:

The giant columns that support ION Orchard have a temporary galloping horses coat:

Somehow I have the feeling that we are gonna see a lot more horses around town in the coming weeks….;-)!

I will keep you posted.

Which of the above horses are your favorites?

    Hi Anja!

Tks for your comments! Montreal is fantastic to live in, i too travelled all over the world, but Montreal remains on of my fav city despite the crazy weather, the huge holes in the road, the slush, ect… so easy to live here - Yes we still have Village des Valeurs but i don’t go often cause it’s too expensive for me - I prefer Renaissance - Renaissance is across the street from Village des Valeurs in my hood -
I work downtown and close to Salvavtion Army, i confess i’m there often, such good deals!

Tks for finding me, i love the blog - I love travel blogs - I will follow you for sure

    Take care

      Hi Ariane,

I agree completely with you: Montreal is very easy to live in.
I don’t know Renaissance, but if I ever return to Montreal I’ll be sure to check it out!

      Thanks for following me:-)

The marshmallow horse is not my favorite either; it looks a bit too messy. The Chinatown lantern-horses are my favorites so far, and after that the ‘seahorses’ with the golden horses on third place;-).
