When we were at Kochi, staying at the Vivanta by Taj, Malabar, it so happened that India’s first ever Biennale was held in Cochin. To be more precise, it actually just ended, after having been there for 3 months:-(. Boohoo….
But….it seemed to have been extended with a couple of days, so we were able to pick up a tiny bit of it. Joohoo!
What we saw was that they used historical buildings, like deserted houses in Jew Town, the harbor and the sea, and other special locations to showcase the art works. Interesting.
Also some spontaneous art work, like murals, have popped up during the Biennale.

Do you see the floating stands in the water?

They are part of an art work in honour of the many local fishermen that have been ‘taken by the sea’.

This text is about connecting their history, their lives and deaths to ours in the present.

Beautiful building, right?!

With a nice curved bench in front, just in an utterly bad state:-(.

Cool murals. With -ofcourse- a lot of rubbish in front of it:-(.

Works made of colored powders
Cool, isn’t it?
We did not see much of the Biennale, but we loved what we saw! Well done, Cochin!
