From Kochi to Varkala

After our days in Kochi we took a taxi to Varkala.

A drive that turned out to take us 5 hours and that was quite stressful. The road was only one lane each way and everyone tries to overtake everyone. Scary sometimes!

Along the way the roads are lined with XXXL billboards.

It is such a shame. There is this gorgeous landscape with all that green and all those palm trees, but that is hidden a lot of the time behind these very ugly billboards!

Add the usual Indian garbage on the streets to that and it does not make a pretty picture.

Fortunately it gets better the more you get in the countryside.

Like in Goa, there is a lot of catholicism in Kerala as well.

There is al sorts of traffic on the road.

Even elephants.

Not so surprising, since Kerala is the state with the highest number of domesticated elephants.

More about that in my next post.
