Art Stage Singapore. 2014. Part 2.

Sunday, March 2, 2014

Singapore's most recent Art Stage was huge, as I wrote in my first article about the event

And it shows, because when I  brows and surf the internet about Art Stage, I see a lot of much art that I missed. Making me  wonder: "Did I visit the same event or what?!".

The main reason for missing so much of the presented art is that I underestimated this fair and did not reserve enough time for it. I came in an hour and a half before closing time and that was simply not enough.
Better next time, I guess.

And no problem, by the way, since I still did see a lot. Quite overwhelming, honestly speaking.

Here is my second selection of  Art Stage 2014:

The Emperor's Clothes.
I like this painting.
I think it was already sold, as was a lot of art.
Man, what a money went around there! So much of the works got sold!!! Crisis? What crisis?!

I blogged about Chinese artist Liu Bolin a while ago on my other blog Totally Wowed. He is very successful with his so-called camouflage art. I like it!
Do you know his work? Do you see him in this sunflower work?

Pakpoom Siaohan -  Ali Guards on Pepsi

The intense blue of this work reminds me of the blue that Yves Klein used in his art.

I like these art works with Chinese  persons in black and white, holding neon orange/red cord between their fingers.
I used to do this game when I was a child, but I forgot the name of it. Do you remember?

Studio 30 - Batman & Jokers

Skates made from Birch Bark. Who comes up with that ?….straaange...

Love me - Jeong Hwa

The wings of this giant pink inflatable pig move up and down, hence the focus problems I had;-).

Music of Love - Nguyen The Dung, Vietnam
He depicts people with cow heads.  Cows are important in Vietnamese culture and society.

I love these strong-colored flower shapes by Brian Robinson!

Interesting materials that this artist used in his art works.

These works by Juz Kitson are delicate, pretty and scary at the same time. I see a whole lot of shapes and forms related to the female reproduction organs and genetalia: ovaria, eggs, vagina's….
But also skulls, hair, antlers….
Intriguing!

This is a whole bee colony made out of paper by Mylyn Nguyen. It is as if they all are covered with small grass patches.
The artist handmade 1.000 bees for this installation. The idea came from his small balcony where he grew bonsai trees but he missed insects there. I guess now he has 1.000 of them!

Again a nice play with 2D with a 3D illusion.

Very pretty.

I like the silver painting by Ashley Bickerton

These sculptures from Yi Hwan Kwon are shaped in a very confusing perspective.
They are 3D sculptures made in 2D, if I can describe it like that.

This work also plays tricks on your mind and eyes. At first it looks 2D, but looking up close and from the side it is in fact  3D.

This work too is  hard to look at without getting optically confused.

Picasso portrayed by another artist. In relief.

Fun sculpture by Shigeki Hayashi.

I found this  an interesting installation. No clue what it means, though;-).

I love these chandeliers made with recycled objects, like the wheel of a bike and a propellor fan.

I like this work from Indian artist Sakshi Gupta. The contrast of the concrete , mono-colored sculpture with the lively, beautifully colored, delicate feathers that 'grow' out of it, is exciting and surprising.

In this work, consisting of a whole line of small sculptures, we see  couples from which one is a police officer who is frisking the other one.
It is called Circadian Rhymery by Jitish Kallat.
Quite puzzling.

What a variation in art, right?! So many different styles, techniques and materials!
Which ones would you like to have in your house? Which of the art works move you?
I love the colors of the flowery shapes by Brian Robinson and am intrigued by the complex, 'ovary and eggs' ceramic works by Juz Kitson.

In my third and final article about Art Stage I will show you my absolute favorites, besides the art of DOLK, that I already showed you in my first post about this Art Fair.

  1. There is not much I would want in my house. But it is all interesting. The child with the arrow appeals the most to me.

    1. Surprising; some people found it a bit eery, with the extremely pale complexion.

  2. Those 3D that are 2D sculptures freak my mind. We had some by another artist here in Toronto and I could have stared at them for hours.

    1. I know what you mean; your eyes and mind can't get it, right?
