Pune, part 10: Central Pune's architecture

Walking through Central Pune, the area of the Peths (neighborhoods) and Wadas (court yarded houses), you see quite a lot of nice architecture. Or maybe I should say: "...what obviously once used to be beautiful architecture...". Since practically everything seems in some state of (urban) decay and neglect. 

For photographic reasons I see the charm of urban decay, but in fact I find it quite sad to see all this cultural heritage and history crumble down. If not restored and cared for, no doubt these buildings will fall apart one day and disappear.

Anyway, not much that I  can do about that, so I'll just show it to you in the -let's say- rustic state that it is in now:

Wood carved detail around a huge courtyard.

There is a lot of this woodwork to be seen: balustrades, balconies, woodcarved or iron fences and railings and pillars. Also here and there an advertisement, painted on the wall. I love those!

There are busy streets, crowded alleys, but also some quieter, leafy lanes, like this one. With nice trees.

Yes, that's also a place to grow grass...hahaha...

Giant courtyard. Unfortunately no idea what the building is used for now. Since not many people speak english and all the signs are only in indian, we have no clue:-(.

Lots of shops and workrooms on groundlevel.

The centre is also dotted with temples and mosques from all religions and kinds.

The Banyan trees form a great place for citizens to gather, relax, chat or read.
