An hour in Amber Town

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

The hour between our visit to Amber Fort and our afternoon at Elefantastic we spent at Amber town.

We had a look at a gorgeous temple, where we both received a bindhi from the 'residing' priest there. And we looked around the streets.

Let's first look at he Sri Jagat Siromani Ji temple, dedicated to Krishna and beautifully decorated with stonecarvings:

What a glorious entrancegate with all those beautiful carvings!

Once through the entrance gate you arrive at a spacious interior courtyard and a front portal before the temple.

Roof and ceiling of front portal.

You can spend hours to check out all the carved out figurines. Not that we did;-).

Here you can see what time and weather do to the carvings and what it looks like when renovated.

Door to temple.

Daybed inside temple? For the holy man who lives here?

Altar. What a special and gorgeous idols!!!

Holy man who gave us each a bindhi on our foreheads.

In town:

It is clear that Rajasthan and especially Jaipur and around, is a shoppers paradise. There is so much beautiful handmade stuff for sale! All very colorful!

You only need a small piece of wall to hang your clothes...hahaha.

Don't go shopping during siesta, little goat! Shops are closed.

Large balance/scales.

Ad for Lays chips.

Who can translate this for me? Does it have to do with tango or ballroomdancing?

Pottery is one of many handicrafts in this region.

You find these small mobile sound units all over India. They can make a lot of noise!!!!!

Camelcart

Walls are used a lot for painted ads. I found this one particularly colorful. Unfortunately no clue what it says....

Ok, so far our hour in Amber.

Tomorrow I take you to Pushkar, city of blue temples and lake.
