La Laguna by Luigi and Fonzo
La Laguna is another brainchild from the brilliant duo (Luigi and Fonzo) that’s responsible for La Favela and La Plancha.
(I wrote about La Favela and the two men that designed and own all these cool hotspots here.)
This hugely popular hangout is located at a laguna or lagoon – duh!- on one of Canggu’s beaches. (Find out all about Bali’s newest hipster haven Canggu in my article here.)
Romantic La Laguna Bali – bohemian paradise
La Laguna sure is a delightful place; it looks like a bohemian paradise.
Gypsy caravans galore
Upon entering the premises, you walk past a hand full of vintage gyspsy caravans.
Are they still usable? No, definitely not. Hence the ropes preventing you from entering the gypsy wagons. I’m afraid they might crumble under your weight. No, not you! In general! I was speaking in general!
Do they still have their romantic charm? They most certainly do!
Oh man, how much would I love to have them all and fix them all up.
Al fresco seating areas
Bamboo sticks, cheerful pillars and recycled wood are used to create intimate seating areas, with lots of green and relaxed, colorful seats and poufs.
Vintage and kitsch interior
The building itself has a lovely, open concept. Very cosy and boho, with a mix-and-match, vintage-and-kitsch interior. Loving it!
There is a small ‘river’ with a bridge over it, with seats on it.
There is also a bigger bridge going over the water of the laguna onto the beach.
On the beach are three bamboo-wigwams, standing there all pretty and Instagrammable!
There was a wedding going on, and of course they used this romantic scenery as a backdrop for lots of wedding pics. It’s such a gorgeous place, so those pics must have come out just perfect.
Our evening at La Laguna
We sat ‘al fresco’, overlooking the lagoon and the beach.
I had a frozen mojito, we had a cheese platter, and over time more food and drinks were ordered.
Time passed and I thought to myself : “I could do this every day. Easy-peasy. This is not bad. Not bad at all.”
We just sat there and watched the five ducks in the lagoon, being chased by stray dogs from time to time. (No worries. The ducks were smart and stayed in the water, while the dogs did not seem to want to get their feet wet.)
We saw people jogging, horseback riding and walking along the beach. Surfing and swimming in the sea. (People, that is, not us;-))
It was a good day, folks, yes, it was!
I guess it’s clear that I highly recommend a visit to La Laguna. It’s a fabulous place to chill and enjoy the food and cocktails. And did I mention that’s it’s pretty?;-)
Does a bohemian hang-out like this appeal to you? Do you have -like me- a soft spot for vintage gypsy wagons?
