The hotel where we are staying, the Westin pune, has some special features. At least in my eyes.
The first one is the Fly Guy. Actually it is not ONE guy, I saw at least two different men on different days. Their job is to walk around in the hotel restaurant, where the buffet is, with what looks like a badminton racket. In fact it is an electrocuting thing for flies.
The first time I saw the guy I wondered why he was walking around with a badminton racket all the time, until I heard the crispy sound of a fly being electrocuted. Then I got it;-). A very important job, to protect the health of the guests.
We see this man on the right.
On the other staff member, the one with the yellow shirt, we notice two things.
First of all we see the yellow shirt that belongs to bubbly sunday brunch, when the whole restaurant area is decorated with balloons and the staff is dressed differently then on other days. They sure make an effort!
Yesterday e.g., the young woman who works in the restaurant was wearing a special outfit to honor a south-indian festival that was yesterday:
The festival is called Onam, a Kerala festival, South India. Unfortunately my only images come from the newspaper, since I did not witness anything myself:
But the most remarkable thing of the hotel is the sentence that is printed under every staff members name: "My passion is.....".
I find this brilliant! It is a great conversation starter and can lead to nice discoveries and chats.
As we see in the picture in the middle, (above the one from me and the young lady) Ananta's passion is music.
In our chat about that in his case means mainly Indian music. Another colleague, who too has chosen 'music', also only listened to Indian music. Reaeaeally old! (I thought of 1920 or something, but he meant the 80's and 90's. Hahaha! He was around 20 years old, that's why.) The only english music he liked was Justin Bieber.
For the rest I encountered -so far-: writing poetry (three books full, not published), singing ( for an audience), playing cricket ( not professionally anymore), driving, cycling and traveling ( only in India). One of the girls likes dancing (to trance and hiphop) and one of the male staff members likes listening to indian instruments, like the Indian flute. He knew the flute-guru that Chloe is studying with, a canadian woman I met in Mumbai.
Then about the music that is played in the communal spaces in the hotel:
I am often surprised about how up-to-date and western that music is.
(Except for in the executive lounge, as I wrote yesterday)
Next to Adele, who is popular around the globe (and well-deserved), I also heard our own (Dutch) Caro Emerald (in the Westin in Mumbai) and the last days they played Lianne LaHavas! By chance I am listening to her a lot at the moment; her album is fantastic!
So there you have clips from all three ladies. Do you like what you heard and saw?
To finish it of, here is a clip of Sherry-Dyanne, another Dutch product, which I love!
How cool is that song?!! Candy Dulfer appears as well.
Ok, so I wondered of from Pune, India, to British and Dutch music;-).
Tomorrow's post I'll go 'back to Pune'!
