We were the cutest Halloween couple on the block
Isn’t Halloween all about ‘looking scary’???
Yes, I know, you’re right. But sometimes I just feel for stretching up the definition a bit… into ‘dressing up’. Period.
Last year we were the Ice Queen, Ice King and Spooky, the Black Ice Cat.
Hybrid Feline Family
This year, the three of us -yes, that’s right, Spooky came with us again- were dressed up as a Mixed Feline Family.
Frits was a pure-bred Leopard, I had the head of a lion and the body of a leopard, while Spooky had the body of a Black Panther, with blonde lion hair here and there and leopard accessories.
And hey, you have to admit: big cats are scary by definition, right?!
Noise Invasion Festival at Haw Par Villa
Our first stop was Haw Par Villa, which translates as Tiger Leopard Villa. My favourite place in Singapore and home to many a tiger and leopard. So our costumes could not have been more appropriate, don’t you think?
Last weekend Haw Par Villa celebrated it’s 80th anniversary and saturday night it was NoiseInvasionFestival.
It was already unique to visit the park after dark, since it normally is closed by then. We were surprised to see heaps of people visiting the park, coming for the live music and for having a bite here and a drink there.
Mayhem Halloween at Clarke Quay
After a while we took a taxi and went for Clarke Quay, our favourite place to celebrate Halloween in Singapore.
It was fabulous as always. So many people in Halloween costumes. A lot to see, enjoy and admire.
Celebrities for an evening;-)
We knew from previous years that if your outfit appeals to people, they will want to take a welfie with you and/or a picture of you. And regularly you will want the same with others that look great.
Every year we are quite a popular couple to be photographed. This year we seemed even to be more popular, much to our own surprise.
I’m not the bragging type, so I am saying this well aware of it’s complete unimportance, if you understand what I mean. Famous for a second, so to speak. Hahaha….
So even though it may sound like pure ego and vanity, it’s not about that.
It’s just nice to receive appreciation for the work you have done on your make-up and outfit. People that come up to you and say :”Wow, did you do this make-up yourself? Cool. Good job!”
Or when people accidentally lay eyes on the three of us (meaning Frits, me and our ‘cat’) and their faces break open with a big smile. And that 30 times in a row. Great feeling.
I guess it resembles what a comedian feels when he or she succeeds to make their audience laugh.
People that go: “Hey, I’m a feline too!. Let’s take a picture together.”
There’s just such a happy ambiance and it’s so easy to connect with people. Okay, superficial contacts, but still fun!
Spooky is an important part of our popularity, I think.
Having a prop with you that is dressed up and ‘in character’ seems to speak to people. They appreciate the sense of humour and it makes them laugh or at least smile.
People wanted to touch our
cat jaguar, hold it, shake its hand paw and -I know, men!…- two guys (within two minutes) even tried to dry-hump Spooky.
Why, guys, why…. ??? Can you please leave your surplus of testosteron at home? And did you not notice that Spooky is a guy?! Really!
Like every year there are some drag queens (is it correct and okay that I call you this way? I’m not sure…feel free to let me know if I should address you differently!) that come in the most fantastic costumes.
They wear them with lots of character and pride. I guess they work on them for weeks in advance and it sure shows. Impressive! Kudos to you!
My personal favourite this year however was this guy.
He looked awesome and the faux-corps that he dragged behind him was killing me! (pun intended). But best of all, he was having so much fun, goofing around. He just seemed like a very upbeat personality.
So what do you think? Are you joining us next year? Even if it’s just for drinks, in plain clothes. You’ll have fun watching the whole shabam!
I have our costume and make up ideas for next year already in my mind; can’t wait! Spooky will no longer join us. Time for other props.
And yes, we will look scarier in 2018, promise!!
What did you do this Halloween?
