Haarlem is getting hipper
Haarlem is as charming as it is boring; that’s what I used to think and say about my hometown. I know, pretty harsh, right? Don’t get me wrong. It doesn’t mean that I don’t live a happy life there, mind you!
But even though Haarlem was praised several years in a row as “best shopping city from the Netherlands” I still missed cool, cosmopolitan hotspots.
Well, over the past years that has changed. Haarlem is and will never be as exciting and vibrant as e.g. Amsterdam, but it definitely got better. New, hip coffee places, cafes, shops and restaurants pop up all the time. Yay!
Haarlem Hotspot – Native
Last winter I stumbled upon Native, a small, cute place for breakfast, coffee and lunch.
The food and beverages are ‘honest’ and of high quality and the ambiance is relaxed, cosy and hipster.
You find Native in the Breestraat, one of Haarlem’s cute narrow streets in De Vijfhoek, Haarlem’s oldest neighbourhood.
Native is surrounded by a number of other hip hotspots, like neighbour Petit Depot (living, jewellery, children and more) and neighbours across the street Sjakies Large (furniture and interior design) and flower shop Klavertje Vijf .
In my opinion Native is a lovely spot for a coffee or lunch. Or to hang out alone while reading a book. Or for catching up with a friend while having cake and coffee.
Have you been to Native? Did you like it? What’s your favourite coffee-/lunch hotspot in Haarlem? Please share it in the comments; I’m always eager to discover more!
