City Trip Zwolle. Where to shop.
I looove shopping! Windowshopping, just browsing and actually buying stuff. I definitely do not shy away from some fun retail therapy.
Having said that, the type of stores I like are not the big brands, nor enormous malls or glossy, expensive shops.
I like small shops, quirky stores, shops with colorful, fun and affordable stuff. Concept-stores, shops selling art and stores with a unique look and character.
My favorite shop in Zwolle
Kunst en Klieder is definitively my favorite store in Zwolle.
This shop, from the way it looks till the products it sells, is totally ME! If I could place my bed in the middle of the store, I would move in tomorrow.
Woohoo; what a shop!
More cool shops in Zwolle
A few doors away from Kunst en Klieder, so also in the charming Sassenstraat, there is Villa Tovertoren. There they sell kids stuff and cute fashion for women.
It’s obvious that I’m not a kid any more, but I still have a weak spot for kid stuff. Aren’t those toy deer super cute? And I adore animal lamps, like the chicken. At home I have Bambi as lamp.
The fashion brand King Louie that they carry at Villa Tovertoren has great dresses. Comfortable, affordable and colorful. Bit retro, bit hippie.
Pistache is a very different kind of store than the previous two.
It is a huge concept-store with an industrial look, that rents out space to small entrepreneurs and enterprises.
The variety of products and services is big; from fashion to home decor, and from a hairdresser to a a cafe for lunch and coffee.
Another shop that I like a lot is Blauwdruck-Deliroos. You find this store in the same street as Kunst en Vliegwerk and Villa Tovertoren.
Blauwdruck sells handicraft and art from local artists. I bought a number of very unique and cool postcards by various artists. Affordable too!
The owner of Bijzonder-Heden refers to her store as ‘an unofficial museumshop’ for people that visit Museum De Fundatie in Zwolle.
She sees it that way, because her store is located very near the museum and it stocks art, design and craft items. The kind of stuff that art-lovers like.
We went inside and my friend Jo bought a gorgeous cardigan and matching shawl made from baby-alpaca. I bought -again, being an avid snail-mailer- some very unusual postcards. Happy! Yay!
Oh, how I wish that Sostrene Grene would open a store in Haarlem! I would go there all the time, since they have hip, cool products at very low prices.
They also sell stationery and paper wares, so -yes, you already guessed it- I bought me some postcards and stickers there.
Het Hanzehuis Zwolle had a good reputation as a store that sold unique products that stem from Hanseatic times. Traditional, local products with a history.
We were told that they recently changed their concept. They have let go of the strictly Hanze-products-focus.
I have not visited the store in the original set-up, but people who have, told me that they preferred the old concept. I guess you have to decide for yourself what you think of it. It still looked special to me.
They sell old cabinets now (amongst others) and these are gorgeous.
Other good addresses for shopping in Zwolle
Good shopping streets are Sassenstraat and Diezerstraat.
There’s one more must-visit store in Zwolle, but I will do a blogpost specifically about that shop: Waanders in de Broeren. You will be amazed!
