Did you know that I’m into kitsch? Especially religious kitsch, like Maria’s and other saints? Well, I am. My living room is like a museum of kitsch.
It may look like random nonsense to some, but there IS order in it, like all the religious imagery is in frames on one wall. Frida Kahlo is grouped with other Mexican parafernalia, like Day-of-the-Dead items on another wall. Deer of all sorts
have are gathered in two specific spots. And so on.
I guess now you understand, why I immediately felt at home when I entered the two Holy Kitsch shops in Sydney; one shop is located in Surry Hills, the other can be found in Newtown. For more information visit their website.
In the shop in Newtown, I met one of the owners, Phill, and we had a lovely conversation. It’s so nice to meet a kindred spirit with the same quirky taste. That does not happen every day!
I only bought one small item, since first of all my house is pretty stuffed already, and secondly I am not willing to drag around stuff in my suitcase. But I sure was tempted!
Be sure to pay Holy Kitsch a visit, when you are around; the shops are colorful, happy and have original Mexican stuff.
