The roles of the Welcome Agent and The Insider are very specific and have all to do with a personal touch, with offering something unique to the W guests.
Once a week we received a handwritten card by Maggie, with some nice surprise.
One day she approached me in the hotel lobby, asking me if I would be interested in a movie. Turns out that the W, as part of their personalized service, from time to time receives free movie tickets that they then hand out to specific guests.
In my thirties and forties I used to go to the movies at least twice a week. Since then a lot less, due to various reasons. But I still LOVE movies!
The W’s offer concerned a French movie preview in a special cinema that night. Maggie and Charlie would join us. Frits was in for it as well, so we said yes.
That evening we arrived at the Broadway Cinematheque. It is an unusual, lovely film house indeed. It involves a bookshop, a cafe-restaurant, a giftshop and of course the cinema itself.
Bookshop annex cafe annex restaurant. Very enjoyable place for browsing, sitting, working on your laptop, enjoying a coffee or a bite.
The ambiance is warm, cosy and a bit ‘industrial’.
See? The pipes on the ceiling are not hidden. This gives that semi-industrial look.
Small gift shop.
Via the giftshop you can go from the bookshop to the cinema.
Since we had our dinner, we ordered two cappuccino’s. While looking for a place to sit, we were approached by Charlie, whom we had not yet met. She invited us over to sit with her and her French boyfriend. While they had their dinner and we had our coffees we got to know each other. It clicked!
Later on, we joined Maggie, who was already sitting in the cinema.
The movie turned out to be very nice. Romantic and funny. Good actors. Feelgood movie. Recommendable, imho.
This evening was the beginning of our contact with Maggie and Charlie. Short, but warm.
Funny consequence of all this is, that -via Instagram- Singapore’s W Insider, Carah, contacted me and invited me for a tea at the W Hotel in Singapore. I have not visited that hotel yet, but I am anxious to see it.
To be continued;-).
Have you seen this movie? Are you going to? How often do you go to the cinema? Or do you prefer to buy DVD’s and series and watch them at home?
