We happily chose for the funky, cool W Hong Kong, after our wonderful experience at the W Taipei.
Since I have to entertain myself for a big part of the time, and also tend to spend quite some time in my hotel room (blogging and emailing), it is extra important and nice for me, if I like the hotel and the room.
And yes, I DO love our room at the W Hong Kong!
We were upgraded to a so called Cool Corner Room; more about that in one of my next posts.
Let’s first have a look at the facade and entrance of the hotel.
The W Hotels are known for their cool design and for an emphasis on music (gigs). One of their signatures is the letter W.
You find it back everywhere, from the pins on the shirts of the staff members to W’s in the design inside and out.
It’s a bit hard to see well on this picture, but at the facade outside, we can detect a W twice.
|Frits supports the W.
Looks familiar to you? Then look back at our post about the W Taipei😉
You enter the hotel on ground level, possibly via the Elements Mall (more about that in an upcoming post soon).
From there you take one of the elevators to the 6th floor.
|The floor of the elevator wishes you a good morning, good afternoon, etc.
Ofcourse with….a W;-)
Taking a selfie in the mirrored ceiling of the elevator.
As you go up and down in the elevator, you pass by a huge curtain of small tree trunks with lights in them. Cool.
On the 6th floor you find the lobby, the check in desk, the Woo Bar, restaurant Kitchen and the concierge desks.
This lobby area is light, spacious and wonderfully designed.
With an eye for detail in gadgets.
This tree works as a signage.
Love the neon pink lettering.
Also adore the mother-in-pearl mosaics imbedded in the tree. Like this scarabee.
And this lizard.
The Woo Bar has a cool design as well. With lights that resemble floating stingrays and walls with mirror shutters coming out.
The drinks and snacks are delicious. Just the music (DJ) is too loud for our taste. We like to be able to have a conversation;-).
Here and there and everywhere you run into surprising decorations. Be it a work of art or artistic design.
Mao’s book is now all about the W;-)
Oversized mosquito on the wall.
I have always loved these designs from the firm Ibride. Would not mind having this furniture myself, but it is quite expensive.
The Albino Peacock, made entirely out of bike parts. How cool is that?! It is made by college students. If you are interested to read a bit more about the concept behind it, you can read that here.
And have a look at this unique lamp! A big golden bowl, with a small lamp, hidden behind a part of a spoon. The spoon reflects the light on the bowl. Cool idea!
Funny Mona Lisa. A small airplane circles around her and she follows it with her eyes;-)
I will save restaurant Kitchen for another post.
Let’s now take the elevator upstairs to our room and check that out, shall we?
It has an Alice in Wonderland meets Enchanted Garden-like decor. Very nicely done!
Hats on the ceiling.
Everything is chalked white and even the elevator buttons are integrated in the design in a subtle way.
This phone blends right in, and yes, it actually works!
Fake book covers, even one about Dutch painters.
Our room for a month: 3317, a Cool Corner Room.
The day after tomorrow I will show you around in our room.
Tomorrow’s post is all about pink. Pink? Yes, pink. Check it out tomorrow!
